Thinking about their own death, rather than planning their estate for the inevitable outcome, is just one reason why most delay making a Will, Estate Planning and Elder Law Attorney Brian M. Douglas has revealed.

Mr Douglas said the consequences of not leaving a Will would only confuse and frustrate a person’s grieving relatives.

“Assets and property not protected in an estate plan after someone dies are sent to probate for a court using state law to decide what happens to those possessions,” commented the Founder of Brian M. Douglas & Associates, LLC, in Atlanta, GA.

Probate will also burden loved ones and children with more paperwork, higher legal fees, and drawn-out court cases.

A study from Rocket Lawyer, cited by Mr Douglas, found more than half of Americans between the ages of 55-64 don’t have a will. It also revealed 57% had intentions to make a will but hadn’t gotten around to it, 22% thought setting one up wasn’t urgent, and 17% didn’t feel they needed one.

“Most people tend to avoid it because it involves them thinking about their own death,” said Mr Douglas. “However, people don’t appreciate that having their affairs in order will greatly help their loved ones once they’ve passed away.”

He urged people to actively consider making a Will as it would also help address decision-making for a guardian or power of attorney if a person becomes seriously disabled or incapacitated.

An estate plan includes life documents like a health care directive and a durable power of attorney, both of which are vital in the case of an unexpected injury or illness. “Without these documents, your loved ones will not be able to make financial and healthcare decisions for you,” he said.

He went on to say “a solid plan also ensures you have an advocate of your choice working on your behalf to carry out your wishes. Not having your wishes in writing can often lead to further confusion and wrong decisions being made by loved ones.”

Mr Douglas also addressed an assumption that many believe they don’t need a will if they don’t have an estate. 

“If you have a house and children – no matter your marital status – you need a Will. Every family is different and has its own set of particular circumstances that should be addressed in an estate plan,” he concluded.

The spaceport will provide space launch sections and support services to commercial, government, and scientific/academic customers. It will also support the launch of vehicles capable of achieving suborbital and orbital missions with payloads. Vicillion aims to provide frequent, timely, low-cost, and highly reliable access to space, putting it on a different pedestal in the aerospace industry.

Vicillion is currently looking to partner with angel investors, private equity firms, venture capital firms, and forward-thinking individuals and organizations to fund the project. The firm will lead project management during the construction and initial operational stages. The multifaceted project will involve two primary business segments – a multi-user spaceport and facilitating different space ventures including, but not limited to, space tourism, asteroid mining, and human exploration beyond Earth’s orbit. The goal is to have a global impact, servicing the commercial and governmental space sectors.

The McDonald’s Denver Field Office: GM Summit took place on October 26, 2022 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. Over 1,400 attendees from franchises all over the Midwest took part in a dynamic learning curriculum focusing on the core areas of change management, time management, accountability and finding meaning in management.
