So how do the generations stack up? What’s the best way to motivate and manage employees from each generation? How do leaders prepare their businesses for a workforce primarily comprised of Generation Z, Millennials, Generation X, and Baby Boomers within the next year or so? Boomers

As the first generation to experience modern conveniences, such as public infrastructure, spacious suburban homes, and television, Baby Boomers, or those born from 1946 to 1964, have learned to value independent decision-making, team collaboration, and long-term experiences.

“To communicate effectively with Boomers, keep in mind that they grew up in a world without computers and the internet, so they typically prefer phone calls or face-to-face interactions,” Dee Agarwal says.

Known for their worldview that achievement only comes after hard work, Boomers are also career-oriented and plan their goals around their work. 

“To motivate them, leaders should provide them with specific goals to reach and deadlines to complete these goals within a reasonable amount of time. They work well in mentor roles and prefer receiving feedback as if you’re coaching them,” Dee Agarwal explains.

Generation X

With the majority of startup founders belonging to this generation, according to research from Purdue University, Generation X, or simply Gen X, is identified as versatile and digitally savvy, and much like their parents before them, hardworking.

“As workers, Gen Xers prefer flexible work arrangements, believe in good work-life balance, and will often strive to achieve these no matter the cost. To motivate them, leaders should provide not only opportunities for personal development but also immediate feedback to help them improve,” Dee Agarwal says.

Although largely passed up by hiring managers, according to research from CNBC, most Gen Xers excel in leadership roles in this age of digitalization, when companies are struggling with efforts at digital transformation.

Millennials

Often mislabeled as lazy and entitled, members of Generation Y, or Millennials, are actually competitive and achievement-oriented. Born between the early 1980s and the 1990s, it is the largest generation in terms of population in the United States.

Millennials are also considered digital natives and, as such, they are not only well-versed in technology but also well-connected.

“Their reputation is undeserved. Millennials are actually passionate individuals. One of their most distinguishing traits is their desire for innovation and sustainability. While their preferred communication is through instant messaging, including texts, and email, they want to work under leaders who take the time to know them personally. They also desire immediate feedback and a lot of flexibility in their work schedule and roles,” Deepak Agarwal shares.

Generation Z

Members of Generation Z are often confused for Millennials in the workplace, mostly because of similar characteristics, such as their preferred communication styles and their complete immersion in technology. Gen Zers, however, are more motivated by diversity, individuality, and creativity than their Millennial counterparts.

“Because they grew up during a time when battles for equality were fought on many fronts, they view diversity as a necessity. Diverse and inclusive companies often win the hearts of Gen Zers,” Dee Agarwal points out.

To motivate Gen Zers in the workplace, leaders must provide them opportunities to work on multiple projects and demonstrate a value for work-life balance and independence throughout the organization. 

Embrace Diversity

To aid employees in embracing generational diversity in the workplace, leaders must take the time to cultivate an environment of inclusion and collaboration to ensure that every individual’s voice is heard and respected throughout the organization, regardless of their generation and level of experience. Additionally, adapting the organization’s policies and or ways of working for each generation will help employers gain the trust and loyalty of their team members.

The Babyfi Hollow Headrest, the revolutionary fully-breathable, patent pending, and pediatrician recommended baby headrest, is live on global crowdfunding platform Kickstarter and raising funds to bring the project to life. 

Babyfi LLC, a children’s product company, formally announces its launch. Babyfi is a woman-led start up based in San Jose with a mission to revolutionize the children’s product industry and provide a platform for parents and caretakers to provide ideas for safer and better products or services that they would like to see on the market. 

The company is excited to introduce their first product in a line of products— the patent pending and pediatrician recommended Babyfi Hollow Headrest. The Babyfi Headrest has an ergonomic design and the mesh inner shell of the hollow framework ensures a fully breathable structure. The Babyfi Headrest has nothing on the inside to prevent airflow and circulation and the design provides a gentle cradle to support even weight distribution and pressure reduction at any one point on a baby’s head.

“As a new mom of twins, I wanted to ensure my newborns have a safe and breathable but also comfortable environment. Our twins were spending most of the time on their backs (except for when being carried and tummy time) so I wanted to ensure they are more comfortable and there is not too much weight placed on certain spots on their head. So I ordered multiple infant pillows marketed as being breathable which to my surprise were not breathable at all. What I discovered is, no such products existed that are affordable for the average US household,” says Ana Newman, founder, on what inspired the team to create the product.

The Babyfi Headrest is designed to be used during waking hours under parental supervision and includes a slight incline of less than 10 degrees which reduces the risk of breathing obstruction. It is also a hypoallergenic, food-grade product with no latex, glue, foam, chemicals, biocides, fire retardants, or allergens used in it or its construction; making it the safest baby headrest on the market— from design to materials. The product is intended for babies between 0 and 6 months old.

“I got together with a few smart people and we consulted pediatricians as well as multiple product and industrial designers. We talked with other parents, did extensive research, and eventually came up with the Infant Hollow Headrest. I realized other parents needed access to this product, too. So we launched Babyfi — a company created by a parent for other parents to revolutionize the baby industry by making it safer,” adds Newman.

The Babyfi Headrest is currently available for preorder on Kickstarter (www.kickstarter.com/projects/babyfi/babyfitm-headrest-revolutionizing-the-baby-industry) and will be available for purchase on Amazon in Q2 of 2023.

The Northeast Disability and Agriculture Conference is a first-time regional event designed to educate and empower the agricultural community. Through workshops and presentations, farmer attendees will learn how to better advocate for themselves, and service provider and community supporter attendees will learn how to identify potential distress risks within the community. Together attendees will learn how to build a network sharing skills and resources to improve accessibility and reduce industry incidents of suicide.

Healing by Growing Farms founder, Dr. Ivette Ruiz, was inspired to create a healing trauma-based farm after suffering a Traumatic Brain Injury herself two years ago while preparing for a disaster relief deployment during Hurricane Isaias in 2020. Her brain injury caused prolonged PCS (Post-Concussion Syndrome), and her life has not been the same since; she has experienced discrimination, unemployment, and a lack of proper and timely medical care and attention. After realizing how difficult it was to get any treatment or understanding, her salvation was working in her home gardens, tending to her chickens and finding a way to help those impacted gravely by the COVID pandemic. As a Latinx 3rd generation new farmer and first-generation doctoral graduate, Dr. Ruiz wants to use her vast knowledge and experiences to help others who have gone and are going through similar hardships. Her executive work in healthcare, humanitarian relief, public service, food sovereignty, social justice and education helped lead her to this innovative ministry and the first Northeast Disability and Agriculture Conference.

Farm Credit East’s forward and proactive approach to their community’s needs. Chris will talk about the evolution and journey of the Customer Assistance Program (CAP). The program is modeled after Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) that are often available to employees in organizations. The Customer Assistance Program offers a diverse range of wellness programs from personal health to family, relationships, personal growth, professional development, counseling to working through financial and legal obligations and are all available to Farm Credit East customers 24/7 at no cost. Chris will share data, resources and lessons learned from people with diverse abilities from their many years utilizing the CAP program. And, finally we will hear stories from the field.

Best Practices and Resources to Support Growers: Presented by Chris Laughton This session is designed for Service Providers and Community Supporters Only.

Farm Credit East’s Chris Laughton will share about his years farming in his family’s greenhouse and nursery business while working with individuals with disabilities. In this interactive workshop, service providers and community supporters will learn how to identify potential distress risks within the communities they serve and acquire strategies on how to respond effectively. Chris will provide tools and resources in addition to the CAP program to equip learners. Through storytelling, Chris will highlight how to identify customer needs and will share best practices that will equip learners to better serve their clients. Together attendees will discuss how to build a more responsive AG network; sharing skills and resources that improve service accessibility and reduce industry incidents of suicide.

Mr. Chris Laughton is the Director of Knowledge Exchange at Farm Credit East, where he has worked for over a decade. Chris coordinates Farm Credit East’s customer education and beginning farmer programs. He grew up in Eastern Massachusetts, where he worked in his family’s greenhouse and nursery business before joining Farm Credit East. He holds a bachelor’s degree in horticulture from Cornell University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts, and a Master of Science in applied and resource economics from the University of Connecticut. .

A Dialogue on Disability: Presented by David Ingalls This session is designed for Farmers, Forestry and Fishery Attendees Only.

Everyone deserves respect, the freedom to live with dignity, with or without a disability, and to share equal responsibility ensuring equity and equality for all. This engaging presentation will provide a space for self-care, reflections and tough discussions. Attendees will learn how to advocate for themselves and exercise their voice as part of their healing process.

Mr. David Ingalls is a retired therapist who is enjoying retirement while running his own farm. “He picked up where his dad left off”. He owns Ingalls Blueberry Hill Farm, a certified organic U-Pick blueberry operation in New York. His agricultural experiences began 11 generations ago on the family farm. He uses a gravity-fed drip irrigation system and powers his well-house with solar panels. His home, at the top of the farm, is heated through geothermal. Mr. Ingalls is married with four sons and enjoys worship at a local church. He knows the cure for whatever might trouble you: In an interview he said, “I get a lot of doctors here and I want to tell them they should write prescriptions for people to come and pick blueberries!” From counseling, to cows, vegetables, bees and honey to blueberries Mr. Ingalls has the remedy for us all.

RealTalk: Disability and Access in Agriculture : Presented by Dr. Ivette Ruiz This session is designed for ALL participants.

In this interactive session, Healing by Growing Farms Founder, Dr. Ivette Ruiz will share highlights from the conference survey, answer the top (5) questions from the responses and lead us through a group activity and thought-provoking discussion.

Closing Healing Ceremony: Presented by Crystal Jeter-Prince & Rev. Ariel Aaronson-Eves This voluntary post-conference gathering will offer a calming space for attendees to unite in reflection and meditation as they process the content of the conference. Attendees will come together in prayer for healing, mind, body and soul. There will be a moment of silence to remember those we have lost and to relinquish pain, hurt, and feelings of distress. The ceremony will end with an optional cold-water immersion “cold plunge” into ocean waters symbolizing healing and renewal.

With the insights gleaned from predictive analytics, brands can fine-tune and personalize their messages, which vastly increases their chances of resonating with the intended audience and executing a successful campaign, Daniel Yomtobian notes. In addition to improved targeting, customer acquisition, and retention, analytics tools also provide marketers with insights that can reveal new product opportunities and facilitate content monetization. 

It can be argued that brands clinging to the old ways of analyzing their ad campaigns put themselves in jeopardy in a world where “consumers are exposed to an expanding, fragmented array of marketing touch points across media and sales channels,” as stated in a Harvard Business Review article. Nowadays, the deluge of data requires what the author refers to as “Advertising Analytics 2.0.” He goes on to say, “Enabled by recent exponential leaps in computing power, cloud-based analytics, and cheap data storage, […] predictive tools measure the interaction of advertising across media and sales channels, and they identify precisely how exogenous variables (including the broader economy, competitive offerings, and even the weather) affect ad performance. The resulting analyses, put simply, reveal what really works. With these data-driven insights, companies can often maintain their existing budgets yet achieve improvements of 10% to 30% (sometimes more) in marketing performance.”
