The company has confirmed it will donate another four in the fall.
Ontario – August 14, 2023 —
Lucky Labs, one of Canada’s premier purebred labrador retriever breeders, has proudly announced that it has donated four labrador retrievers to be trained as service dogs for veterans and first aid responders with post-traumatic stress disorder.
A Pawesome Gesture To Help Local PTSD Sufferers
Lucky Labs is widely recognized as one of Ontario’s best-loved and most trusted labrador breeders while its training school is also heralded for preparing labradors for a life in service. And the company’s passion for helping people is exemplified by its PTSD Service Dogs Program.
The program sees the company donate $10,000 in service dogs to veterans and first responders with PTSD while the specialists also accept donations towards the program, with 100% of the proceeds going towards breeding and training more dogs to support worthy owners throughout the local region.
Lucky Labs launched the program by donating a chocolate labrador named Patty to the Citadel Canine Society and has continued to do this ever since. In the latest instance, four dogs have recently been donated to be trained as service dogs as part of this year’s donation while another four are currently born and are being raised before meeting their new owners in the fall.
The breeder has also confirmed that the program will continue into 2024 and welcomes suggestions from residents who believe a loved one could benefit from receiving a PTSD service dog in the coming months.
All puppies in the program are trained to help their handlers with various life challenges that may be experienced by sufferers of PTSD. This includes applying pressure to manage anxiety, interrupting flashbacks, waking a veteran when having a nightmare, assisting them with mobility issues, and generally providing emotional comfort. This is combined with the companionship and unconditional love that labradors are known to bring.
Extensive research has also shown that service dogs promote improved mental health in veterans while there have been several cases in which handlers have aborted suicide
attempts because they didn’t want to leave their dog.
With all dogs receiving supreme care throughout infancy and training, which also covers their vaccinations, they arrive at their new homes full of health and happiness. When coupled with the ongoing support provided by the expert trainers, the puppies truly change lives for the better.
