Qubit Labs Survey says One-Fourth of Tech Businesses Avoid Remote Hiring

Qubit Labs’ survey of 45 tech firms found 73% embrace remote hiring for cost efficiency and accessing top talent, but face challenges with resource constraints and competition for skilled professionals in the global market.

has compiled a survey report outlining the reasons why tech companies do not hire remotely.

Qubit Labs surveyed 45 small- and medium-sized IT firm representatives from the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Eastern and Western Europe, and the Middle East. The company survey reveals that 73% of IT companies embrace remote hiring, reaping the benefits of dedicated remote teams, while 26% still favor onsite staff. Key findings from the Hiring and Team Management Challenges of On-Site VS Remote Tech Teams Survey Report 2024 include:

31.5% of Respondents Have More Than Half of the Remote Employees on Their Team


The report highlights the shift in mindset among industry leaders, who recognize the benefits of remote work in terms of efficiency, productivity, and employee satisfaction. By embracing remote hiring, companies can unlock new opportunities for growth and competitiveness in the digital age. Cost efficiency (82.9%), access to top talent (74.3%), and exceptional flexibility (48.6%) are among the key benefits cited by 73.3% of organizations surveyed. 77.4% of respondents source talent in Eastern Europe, 48.4% prefer India, and 16.1% find professionals in Latin America.


68.6% of companies have established a straightforward onboarding process for remote professionals, while only 66.7% of firms have done the same for on-site employees. Also, companies measure employee performance based on their results rather than physical presence. Thus, 50% of firms leverage performance measurement tools for on-site teams, and 76.5% use them for remote tech teams.

88.5% of Companies Find Remote Employees Equally or More Effective Than On-Site Workers, Debunking Proximity Bias

Qubit Labs’ report emphasizes high satisfaction with remote employees, with 91.5% of companies being 80-100% satisfied. 71.4% believe remote workers match local team productivity, and 17.1% find them even more productive. Also, remote specialists demonstrate high reliability and efficiency. For instance, 88.6% of firms report no language barriers with remote teams, 68.8% manage time zone differences seamlessly, and 91.2% are confident in the reliability and security of remote developers.

The Real Reasons why Tech Companies avoid Remote Hiring


The report reveals why 26% of respondents still refuse to hire remotely. According to the survey results, 75% of businesses doubt remote workers’ competence and effectiveness, 8.3% refrain from offshore hiring them due to oversight concerns, and 16.7% prefer on-site collaboration to remote work.
