When the media picked up the story of the hike and the living love story The Fallows, it would add a new emotional dimension to the love story as they read; to inspire the reader’s to save the world from global warming, poverty, war, crime, and disease.”

The characters in the love story are named the man and the woman so the readers can place their names in the story to express their love to each other forever.

Aaron Ross was in the Tribune Review for the hike across America and did not finish the hike across America because of forgery charges from his step father. But he is not giving up. This May 31st he’s going to Colorado Springs after 1769 mile hike from New York City to Colorado Springs. Aaron Ross will finish his hike to Santa Monica beach during the sunset to pour out a jar of ocean water. Carrying the jar across the United States was a way for Aaron Ross to bring The Fallows to life.

The Horse is about a young steed who wants so much to be human that he spends his days daydreaming about what it would be like to do all the wonderful things that humans do. But a good friend reminds him of his purpose in life and he realizes how great it is to be not just anyone, but to be himself, The Horse.

About the Author
Tyler Trull was born in North Carolina, but, like a true Navy brat, he has experienced life in a variety of places, including the Mojave Desert and Puerto Rico. However, after spending much of his life in Southern California, he considers himself a true San Diegan, where he resides with his family. He enjoys doing typical things that youth his age like doing like skateboarding, bike riding, water sports, camping, watching You Tube, and, of course, playing video games.

Life always has not been fun and games or typical for Trull, who was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in second grade. The disorder presents a multitude of issues that range from inability to maintain focus or sit still, academic difficulties, and low self-esteem. It’s a diagnosis that he still struggles with today, but he believes no one should feel ashamed of having ADHD, so he wrote The Horse as part of a homework project to send to blind students in China. The entry was translated into Braille. It was then that he realized the impact he could make in helping other kids who struggle in life, not just with ADHD, but anything that causes them to lose focus on who they are and their destiny to be great.

ABIM, ASCO To Create New Assessment Option for Oncologists

Philadelphia, May 17, 2018 – Today, the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) announced that they are working to co-create a pathway to provide doctors with a flexible way to maintain board certification. The work with ASCO reflects real progress in ABIM’s efforts to collaborate with medical societies.

Beginning in 2020, oncologists will be able to choose from two different assessment pathways. They may take an ABIM Maintenance of Certification (MOC) exam every 10 years. Alternatively, they may take a shorter assessment every two years that will be jointly developed by ABIM and ASCO, reflecting the specialization and expertise of oncologists. The shorter assessment pathway will take the place of ABIM’s two-year Knowledge Check-In in Medical Oncology that had been planned for 2020.

Oncologists will not need to have an ASCO membership to take the shorter assessment pathway.

A co-created assessment

For the past two years, ABIM has had an open dialogue with thousands of physicians and several medical societies, including ASCO, about ways to enhance the MOC program. Based on these conversations, the performance standards-driven process doctors complete to maintain ABIM board certification is continuing to evolve to be more reflective of how they practice medicine today.

“The new assessment pathway is the result of more than two years of input and feedback from ASCO members, as well as our desire to collaborate with ABIM because of their recognized expertise in assessment. Our dual goals for reshaping the recertification process are to ensure that assessment better reflects the realities of cancer care and recognizes oncologists for their knowledge gained through educational and quality improvement activities,” said ASCO’s Chief Executive Officer Clifford Hudis, MD, FACP, FASCO.

The new pathway that ABIM and ASCO will develop together represents the latest innovation in the MOC program, which recognizes doctors for demonstrating current medical knowledge through periodic assessments and continuous learning activities over the course of their careers. ABIM will continue to use its expertise to set performance standards, issue certifications and administer the assessment process. ASCO will bring its expertise in the field of oncology to the assessment process as well as educational resources oncologists can use to close knowledge gaps.

Focus on specialization

Part of the new assessment pathway will address core oncology topics and another part will allow doctors to focus on their area of practice.

ABIM and ASCO will communicate directly with oncologists as more details are refined within the next year.

Beyond Onomatopoeia, a new book by Christine L. Frissora, M.D., has been released by RoseDog Books.

Christine L. Frissora, M.D. is a Gastroenterologist at The Weill Cornell Medical Center. She earned her B.A. from Cornell University and graduated from the College Arts & Sciences. She earned her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. Dr. Frissora has always been an avid reader and was fascinated by Ernest Hemingway’s use of prose in his work. He cut words, sliced sentences, and left a lot for the readers to fill in on their own. Being a talented writer, her professors made her promise to continue writing. “You have to keep writing – you have so much to say.” Later, other talented professors were struck by the author’s ability to capture an experience: “I feel like I was there.” “I felt my hand on his heart.” “That gave me chills.”

Poetry sometimes motivates people to change their behavior. It can be used as a visualization tool for high stress situations – such as handling medical emergencies (A Great Win) or to enhance sports performance (Champions). Dr. Frissora covers a wide range of topics from beauty and sadness, to the trivial heartbreak of a tough loss in a match.

She provides basic tools so that you can write your own poetry for your family or just for yourself. The poems come to the author in complete vignettes, but every writer is different.

About the Author
David MacDonald was born in Scotland in 1950. A co-founder of Scotland’s first organic restaurant in 1970, he moved to Lake Tahoe in 1973. After his first experience with Rolfing, he has devoted himself to the healing arts and sciences. Exploration of consciousness is a lifelong passion of his.

MacDonald maintains a private Rolfing practice in Reno, Nevada, and also offers Attunement meditations. He has been married to Kathleen for thirty-seven years, and they have a twenty-seven-year-old son, Ossian, who works in the family healing center.
