During this time Higgins published an articulation kit for severe speech disorders. The kit was very successful and was in publication for twenty years.

Later, Higgins moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where she worked with three- and four-year-old hearing impaired children. At the same time, Higgins worked on speech and language skills with autistic students and severely delayed mentally handicapped students.

Adobe Shuts Down Muse Website Platform

Seattle, WA – On March 26, Adobe announced the discontinuation of its Muse website builder. Once hailed as a simple way to build and develop websites without needing to code.

For a corporation to be dominant in the website builder and CMS platform segments, their constant innovation and growth percentages year-over-year need to be significant. To compete with the largest platforms like WordPress, those year-over-year growth figures need to be in the high single to low double-digit range. As a benchmark, W3Techs reports WordPress holds a 30 percent market share and has consistently grown 2-4 percent over the last seven years. In comparison, Adobe Muse registered a mere .2 percent growth figure in the last year, which was in line with many of the second-tier content management systems. In comparison, the DIY website builder Squarespace’s market share grew from .5 percent to .9 percent over the last year.

“The website builder space is a constantly evolving segment requiring constant modernization, attention to shifts in technology, best web practices and ultimately consumers who land on the website or landing page,” says Mark Michael, CEO of DevHub. In order to maintain customers, platforms need to focus on its user experience (UX) and widgets, integration partnerships and stay current and responsive to fixing bugs and updating the platform. Most website platforms are built to manage websites at scale which means they need to attract a large enough audience of businesses, agencies and developers to generate a respectable level of profitability. In the case of Adobe Muse, it seems they were able to create a small loyal base of users and developers, however not at the scale needed to return profits at a level acceptable to shareholders.

Like many website builders and CMS systems, there are lines of proprietary code making migration from Muse to another platform a more complex issue. When combined with the shutdown of Adobe Business Catalyst, their hosting and analytics platform, many agencies, businesses and developers have been left out in the cold. With a forced migration necessary for potentially hundreds of thousands of websites, marketers are scrambling to find efficient and effective alternatives.

“We’ve migrated from most legacy website builders and CMS platforms, re-platforming content from one CMS to another can be easy and safe,” says Mark Michael. With DevHub’s migration platform, we are able to recreate most everything from an existing website, often with more flexibility and added analytical tools and web standards – baked in on day one.”

“The good news is that we have 10+ years of experience in doing cms platform migrations – we’ve built proprietary tools to greatly simplify the process, reducing potential downtime, lost revenue and traffic. Rather than taking months, our approach reduces a migration process to mere weeks even with a hundred thousand or more sites. With DevHub, 99 percent of migrations are aligned with current look and feel, speeding the process and maintaining site functionality, Daniel Rust CTO DevHub shares.

Leavenworth, KS Author Publishes Uplifting Memoir

More Than One Way Home, a new book by Jeffrey L. Baxter, has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc.

This memoir is about overcoming setbacks and finding hope. It’s about Jeffrey L. Baxter’s journey overcoming chronic depression and the resultant obesity that developed because of his inability to deal with two significant deaths. He hopes that readers will see that life is, indeed, a journey, and that hope can be found even when it seems least likely.

About the Author
Jeffrey L. Baxter is the oldest of five children, born when his mother had tuberculosis. His Dad had to quit architectural school to pay the bills and his mother couldn’t have contact with him because of the TB. So, Baxter was raised for the first four years of his life by his Grandmother Younkin, a retired school teacher. As he grew up, she would suggest poetry and other literature for him to read to discover the answers to the questions he was asking her. Then they would sit in her rocking chairs and figure out the answers together.

Baxter has taught for well over thirty years. He’s a fellow of the National Writing Project and very active with his local affiliate, the Greater Kansas City Writing Project. He’s presented hundreds of workshops in the Midwest and nationally.

After overcoming chronic depression in the nineties and losing more than two hundred pounds, he rediscovered his teaching career and his life. He is the 2014 Kansas Teacher of the Year. He’s also the 2015 Kansas Global Education Fellow, working with teachers globally. In 2015 he traveled to Peru to work with Peruvian children and educators.

Baxter believes that character matters more than test scores, and that teaching literature should be a meaningful conversation between teacher and students like Baxter’s conversations with his grandmother.

More Than One Way Home is an 86-page paperback with a retail price of $22.00. It is also available in hardcover and eBook format. The ISBN is 978-1-4809-5000-9. It was published by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Surwon Technology – Tests Graphene-Augmented F1 ‘Wet’ Tire

Specialist and advanced materials innovator, Surwon Technology is conducting extensive testing on a wet weather tire that is reportedly capable of delivering significant performance improvements over the current “wets” used by racers during rainy periods on Grand Prix weekends.

The prototype tire uses an adaptation of the same graphene configuration the company developed for use in desalination filters, an application which enables far greater volumes of water to flow through its atom-thick layers than can be achieved using just traditional materials.

During races and qualifying sessions, wet weather tires are deployed when the rain makes the standard slick tires used on dry tarmac impractical. Teams change their cars’ tires from slicks to so-called “wets” which are able to clear far more water from the track, thereby reducing aquaplaning and keeping the cars on the tarmac. However, when the rain stops and the track begins to dry out, they tend to heat up very quickly; this has an adverse impact on grip and dramatically reduces lap times forcing teams to change back to slicks as quickly as possible.

“Our wet weather prototype not only displaces more water while the track is drenched, it also dissipates more of the heat that builds up in traditional wets as the tarmac dries out. This enables the team to keep cars and drivers out that little bit longer so they can open up a greater gap over rivals during the crucial pit stops,” explained Surwon Technology’s Chief Technical Officer.

Surwon’s tire is being tested in collaboration with an unnamed automotive rubber products supplier rumored to have plans to enter Formula 1 in the future as a rival to the sport’s current sole supplier, Pirelli.
