Irving, Texas – Irving Independent School District has selected a new transportation provider to deliver safe and reliable transportation to approximately 6,500 students for the 2018-2019 school year and beyond. First Student will manage and operate all student transportation services for the district as part of a five-year contract.

First Student has partnered with school districts for more than a century to deliver tailored student transportation solutions. The company’s hiring, training and ongoing development programs for drivers and monitors help deliver a ride that is twice as safe as the industry average.

“Student safety is our top priority,” said Irving ISD Superintendent of Schools of Schools Jose L. Parra, Ed.D. “We are confident First Student will deliver the high-quality transportation services we expect, while continuously looking at ways to make the experience even better for our students who ride the bus.”

Current Irving ISD drivers are being offered the opportunity to join First Student. The company is raising starting wages for drivers to $17.95 an hour and offering a $1,500 sign-on bonus. First Student plans to hire more than 180 employees, including drivers, bus monitors, mechanics and staff to support Irving ISD. The district will continue service with its current transportation provider through July, and First Student will assume operations August 1.

“We look forward to working closely with Irving ISD and appreciate the trust administrators have in us,” said Liz Sanchez, First Student senior vice president. “We are committed to using our insights, expertise and resources to provide the best start and finish to the school day for the students and families we serve.”

More than 25,000 students in Texas currently ride First Student buses to and from school. The company has five locations in the state.

Distracted Driving Remains Chief Concern Amongst Canadians

February 22, 2018 – Shop Insurance Canada says; according to a new study, Canadians believe distracted driving is getting worse, even though authorities has tightened laws, made punishments heavier, and engaged in public education programs. While most Canadians recognize distracted driving as a problem, most of them are still participating in the driving behavior.

Four out of five Canadians (83%) think texting while driving is a bigger issue than it was just three years ago. The data was presented by the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA), completing a poll of 2,003 Canadians.

“Despite anti-texting and driving laws in all provinces across the country and several years of public education campaigns, Canadians still don’t seem to be getting the message,” says Jeff Walker, chief strategy officer of CAA National.

Distracted driving has become so frequent, it is now tied as the Number 1 road safety concern alongside drunk driving. CAA has been following Canadians concerns for years and texting while driving entered the top 10 for the first time in 2011. Since then it has become an increasing concern for Canadians.

“Studies show drivers are as much as 23 times more likely to get into a collision when they text and drive,” says Walker. “It’s important we all put our devices down and stay focused on the road.”

According to Shop Insurance Canada, Insurance companies and authorities have been battling against distracted driving, and it is increasingly looking like it is a losing battle. Most jurisdictions have brought tougher penalties on drivers, but still distracted driving continues to grow.

Shop Insurance Canada is a subsidiary of RDA Insurance, a major Ontario based insurance provider with a stable of online outlets that includes Shop Insurance Canada family sites. The company has two goals, to give you the very best insurance policy possible and to help you save money when looking for coverage.

Manteca, CA Author Publishes Novel

Odd-I-Sea: The Lightest of the Light, the Darkest of the Dark, a new book by Lynn Palmer, has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc.

My Greek protector became “My Love.” I know what love is now. Love is “I choose him, he has my heart, and I have his heart.” The first time he said that to me was on Mannar. It was as if the planet stopped. My breath went in and came back out so slowly. Everything changed in that moment-I felt it. We did go through a period of adjustment where I had to yell at him a lot, but that was then, this is now, and I have never been happier on this Earth!

But I still ask myself one question: How can we be going into an enlightened transformational period when the Vatican is allowed to ritualistically murder our children, our future?

Odd-I-Sea: The Lightest of the Light, the Darkest of the Dark is the result of promises made to a man in a dream and to author Lynn Palmer. Light, warmth, and beauty are easy to share. Sharing and embracing the dark is not as comfortable. Only by being aware of the truth can we bring the light of change.

The point of this story is to stop the ritualistic murder of children who visit Gozo and their parents!

About the Author
Lynn Palmer has been a Reiki Master since 1998. Reiki energy comes through her. She likens it to being a faucet. The energy appropriate for the person comes through to them.

This book came through her in that manner. Palmer’s memory was crystal clear – as if this experience had written itself on her heart and soul. It is the lightest of the light and the darkest of the dark.

Odd-I-Sea: The Lightest of the Light, the Darkest of the Dark is a 70-page paperback with a retail price of $20.00. The ISBN is 978-1-4809-4048-2. Welcome to the world of nonprofit law, summarized here in a form loosely poetical. Beware the Commerciality Doctrine and Other Nonprofit Law Poetry sheds new light on the world of nonprofit law. He is the Professor from Practice at the University of Kansas School of Law. East Amherst, NY Author Publishes Investment Guide

Some Guidelines for the New Investor, a new book by Darrell D. Young, has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc.

Money: it’s nice to have and not so nice if you don’t have any. This book is written with retirement in mind, that time in which there is no longer a regular paycheck coming in and we are reduced to living on Social Security and/or a pension, if we are lucky. Some reports state that nearly a quarter of all Americans have less than $10,000 saved for their golden years. That’s one out of every four of you who are going to have to scrimp because you did not save when you could have. Quite frankly, that is not going to do it, as there is no wiggle room for travel, or catastrophic illness, or if your rowboat with its expensive motor just sank in the middle of the lake, or whatever. Therefore, you need a financial cushion – and the bigger the better.

About the Author
Darrell D. Young retired early from his position as a professor of General Science and Science Education at SUNY in Buffalo, New York, to care for his wife, Judith. He has a BA from the University of Northern Iowa, an MA from the University of Northern Colorado, and a DEd from SUNY. In his youth, he served in the U.S. Army as a clerk typist before getting his education and becoming a teacher. He has traveled extensively in the UK. His interests range from finance and investing to botany and fishing.

Some Guidelines for the New Investor is a 56-page paperback with a retail price of $10.00. The ISBN is 978-1-4809-5056-6. It was published by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Snowbound Launches OCR Support for Smart HTML5 Viewing & Conversion

Waltham, MA (February 21, 2018) – Snowbound Software, the market leader in document viewing technology, today announced the addition of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) support to VirtualViewer®, the firm’s award-winning pure HTML5, web-based document viewer, as well as its conversion SDK.

The latest version of VirtualViewer® HTML5 allows users to perform text and pattern search on files such as PDF, TIFF, JPEG, and PNG, as well as text selection after the document has been OCR’d.

“We’ve had many requests from our market for the ability to OCR a variety of documents,” said Snowbound CEO Simon Wieczner. “We are confident this addition to VirtualViewer will help our customers better search, review and collaborate on their documents without ever having to leave the viewing interface.”

To OCR a document in VirtualViewer, all a user must do is search for text in a non-text document to get the OCR prompt. The original image will overlay the OCR’d textual data to maintain the greatest similarity to the original document, while the search text string is highlighted on the client’s display. The user also has the option to then individually extract, redact, or batch redact all matches, as well as apply redaction tags to the results.

Along with being available in Snowbound’s universal web viewer, VirtualViewer HTML5, it is also available in the firm’s powerful document conversion SDK, RasterMaster.

“We anticipate the greatest use of OCR will be in our VirtualViewer product because of the added ability to search any document, whether raster or textual,” said Wieczner. “Our customers are accustomed to sophisticated tools and this feature adds to the powerful workflow capabilities provided by our pure HTML5 document viewer.”

Snowbound currently deploys an OSS OCR engine for Windows systems. Additional OCR engines will be added as demand requires.

To see a quick video demo of the OCR support, click here.

Snowbound’s VirtualViewer HTML5 document viewer is a pure HTML document viewing solution enabling file retrieval through a universal web application. It does not require any client-side installation or plug-ins such as Flash, Adobe, or Office. VirtualViewer HTML5 works with any modern browser, provides on-the-go mobile document viewing, and delivers flexible cross-platform support. Snowbound offers a variety of out-of-the box connectors for several popular ECM applications, as well as a built-in-interface that offers a suite of APIs that allow you to seamlessly integrate the viewer with any repository, including homegrown applications.
