More Turbulence Causes Serious Injuries

New York City, NY, 09/11/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Frequent flyers know that turbulence is considered normal and ultimately not dangerous for a commercial airplane. However, severe turbulence is much more than a nuisance that disrupts passengers’ sleep or causes them to spill their in-flight orange juice. In recent years, serious injuries caused by turbulence have appeared in news headlines in the U.S. and around the world — and aviation experts say these types of injuries are on the rise.

Airline Passengers Seriously Hurt by Turbulence

An August 2017 United Airlines international flight en route from Panama to Houston experienced such serious turbulence it sent nine passengers and one crew member to the hospital. According to a Business Insider report, “Distressed passengers were evacuated from the plane using stretchers and wheelchairs.”

On yet another August 2017 flight — this time an American Airlines flight traveling from Athens, Greece to Philadelphia — three passengers and seven flight attendants were badly hurt, with one flight attendant reportedly dislocating his shoulder. Passengers said the plane lurched unexpectedly and dropped, throwing people into the ceiling. One passenger photo posted to social media shows liquid from passengers’ drinks splashed on the plane’s ceiling after the incident.

Is Air Turbulence on the Rise?

Turbulence is certainly nothing new, but the number of serious injuries caused by severe turbulence seems to be happening more and more. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), there were 44 serious turbulence injuries in 2016. In 2015, there were just 21. The FAA also reports that the number of injuries caused by turbulence more than doubled between 1982 and 2003.

If serious turbulence injuries are doubling, what is happening to cause this sharp increase? Scientists say there is an obvious answer — climate change.

According to Dr. Paul Williams, a research fellow at Reading University, “It is predicted there will be more and more incidents of severe clear-air turbulence, which typically comes out of the blue with no warning, occurring in the near future as climate change takes its effect in the stratosphere.”

In 2016, for example, a United Airlines flight traveling from Houston to Heathrow Airport in London was forced to make an emergency landing due to severe turbulence.

Researchers say this type of serious turbulence already causes over $500 million in damage in the United States aviation industry every year. A Guardian report states that severe turbulence has even caused a number of fatalities on small private planes.

Contact a NYC Aviation Accident Lawyer to Discuss Turbulence Injuries

Even the most experienced airline travelers can feel anxious and unsettled when a plane suddenly drops in the air or shakes uncontrollably. Unfortunately, severe turbulence is becoming increasingly common on commercial flights. Although aviation experts say it’s almost impossible for turbulence to cause a jetliner to crash, there have been multiple reports of passengers sustaining serious injuries, including lacerations and concussions, caused by severe turbulence. If you’ve been injured on a flight, it’s important to speak to an experienced New York City aviation accident lawyer as soon as possible.

What Is Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS)?

New Jersey, 09/13/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Post acute withdrawal syndrome (PAWS), also known as chronic withdrawal or protracted withdrawal, encompasses a wide variety of symptoms (sometime debilitating) that continue after acute withdrawal from stopping drug or alcohol use is over. Depending on the substance and how it was used, these symptoms can hang on for a long period of time, causing discomfort and frustration, which can lead to relapse. Understanding these symptoms and how to treat them is essential to moving forward in recovery and preventing relapse.

What is the Difference Between Acute Withdrawal and PAWS?

When you use drugs or alcohol for a period of time, your brain chemistry changes to accommodate the presence of the substance. In other words, it gets used to having drugs or alcohol in your system. When you stop using the substance, your brain once again has to recalibrate its chemistry to adjust to the change. As it does this, you will feel the symptoms of withdrawal.

Acute withdrawal (AW), most commonly just called withdrawal, is generally used to describe the uncomfortable physical symptoms that are associated with stopping the use of drugs or alcohol that the body is used to having. As acute withdrawal diminishes, your body and brain will begin to function normally. However, some individuals continue to have these and other symptoms long after acute withdrawal is over. The period of time that an individual suffers symptoms after AW is finished is known as post acute withdrawal. PAWS commonly affects users who have stopped using alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, antidepressants,  and antipsychotics, but it may affect users of other types of drugs as well.

Watch Videos on Drug and Alcohol Addiction

How Long Does Acute Withdrawal and PAWS Last?

Just how long a person experiences withdrawal symptoms depends on the type of substance, how long it was used, in what amounts and what manner it was used, along with other individual physical and medical factors. However, there are some average time frames for the duration of withdrawal symptoms – both acute and post acute.

Acute Withdrawal

Post Acute Withdrawal

Alcohol

Four to seven days

Two years or more, with some sleep disturbances potentially lasting up to three years

Benzodiazepines

One to four weeks

Up to several months

Opioids

Four to ten days

Several weeks to several months

Marijuana

About 5 days

Up to 45 days

Cocaine and Methamphetamines

One to two weeks

One to two months, with some impulse control issues lasting longer

What are the Symptoms of Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome?

While the symptoms of post acute withdrawal can vary from individual to individual, there are some common symptoms that occur most frequently. Some of these include:

Cravings for drugs or alcohol

Irritability

Depression or anxiety

Sleep problems

Reduced libido

Reduced ability to enjoy things or feel pleasure

Short-term memory issues

Chronic fatigue

Difficulties focusing

Difficulty making decisions

Decreased control of executive functions

Physical issues, like aches and pains that are not attributed to a specific cause

These symptoms will eventually subside, but it’s easy to become frustrated in the meantime. That frustration, along with the discomfort of the symptoms, is often a cause for relapse. That’s why it is extremely important that you learn to deal with the symptoms of PAWS in order to prevent relapse and remain sober.

How to Deal with the Symptoms of PAWS

If you are feeling overwhelmed with the symptoms of PAWS, it’s undoubtedly hard to deal with. After getting clean and sober, and starting the long journey toward recovery, it probably feels intimidating to have to deal with yet another trial of the process. But, there are some things that you can do to make the process less difficult and to alleviate PAWS symptoms.

Focus on your progress – Withdrawal symptoms can steer your focus to the negative. It’s important during this time to focus on the progress that you have made and continue to make in your recovery. Remind yourself of where you started – addicted and needing help – to where you are now and where you are headed.

Stay involved and active – It’s easy to shut down and isolate when you are feeling depressed or suffering other symptoms of PAWS. Try to maintain relationships with those people who are supportive of your recovery and take part in activities that you enjoy. Staying active can greatly help minimize psychological withdrawal symptoms.

Maintain a healthy lifestyle – Getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, staying hydrated, and getting some exercise daily will help you combat the symptoms of PAWS physically.

Find support – Support groups like 12-step programs or other recovery groups are essential during recovery, especially when you are feeling post acute withdrawal symptoms. They often provide members with valuable information and coping skills that others have learned during recovery. If you attended inpatient or outpatient treatment, it’s likely that the facility you went to offers some type of aftercare program. Don’t ignore that – use what is available to you to help you make it through this period of time.

Continue medical and mental health care – Be sure that you see your primary care doctor regularly and let him or her know how you are doing with your recovery and withdrawal symptoms. Also, if you are involved in therapy or psychiatric care, continue seeing those medical professionals. The work of recovery doesn’t end when you complete treatment, it’s important to your recovery that you continue to receive care or as long as you need it.

Maintain balance – When you have lived a life (or even a short period) of addiction, it’s easy to try to make up for lost time once you get clean. Some people tend to overdo things, hoping to make a bunch of changes all at once to build a better life. While those changes may be positive ones, attempting to do them all at once can be overwhelming. Be careful that you don’t overwhelm yourself.  Take time each day to relax, meditate, or just have some down time to maintain balance in your new, sober life.

Final Thoughts about PAWS

Making through post acute withdrawal symptoms isn’t easy, but just like sobriety, it is possible. If you are suffering from PAWS, try some of the above techniques and be patient with yourself. You will make it through the withdrawal symptoms – it just takes time. Stay focused on what is important, your health and your recovery from addiction.

School Is Back In Session Says Boca Car Accident Lawyer Joe Osborne

Boca Raton, FL, USA, 09/07/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

It’s the most wonderful time of the year if you’re a parent. The kids are finally out of the house and going to school. They will be getting there on foot, in a school bus or driving them there will become part of your morning routine again. No matter how they get there, they need to get to school and come home safely says Boca car accident lawyer Joe Osborne.

School bus accidents are rare, according to USA Today, but they happen. It’s estimated that from 2004 to 2013 there were a total of 340,039 fatal vehicle accidents, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Of those accidents 1,214, involved school transportation vehicles bringing students to or from school or some school related activity.

NHTSA states about 134 people are killed in school vehicle related accidents annually. About 8% are riding in the vehicles and pedestrians, bicyclists and others outside them count for about 21% of fatalities. Most of those killed are in other vehicles. NHTSA estimates that students are about 70 times more likely to get to school safely riding in a school bus than in a passenger vehicle.

Like anyone else travelling on Florida’s roads students can be injured or killed by negligent drivers.

In Miami earlier this month several children were taken to a hospital after their school van rolled over after a collision, reports CBS Miami. They were coming home after their first day of school at Terra Environmental Research Institute, a school in Kendall. Police report the van was heading eastbound on 182nd Street when it was struck by a car going southbound on SW 105th Avenue. Six students and the car’s driver went to the hospital.

An accident involving a Sarasota County school bus and two other vehicles injured 16 people with eleven of them going to the hospital, according to WTSP. The bus carried a dozen students, an aide and the driver. Another vehicle tried to take a left turn and went into the path of the bus, hitting the front right side of the bus, pushing it into a traffic signal pole. The students were from a school for those with special needs. Of the eleven sent to the hospital, seven were students and four were adults. The driver of the car was cited by the Florida Highway Patrol for failing to yield the right of way according to WWSB.

A 12 year old boy was struck by a car while he was walking to school in Jacksonville in March, reports Action News Jax. He later died at a local hospital. Hunter Cope was one of three students crossing an intersection. The police report states Cope was in the crosswalk when the car went through the intersection on a yellow light. Police report they believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time. News4Jax reports the driver had ten citations on her driving record including five for speeding.

As important as it is to learn in school, it’s more important that children get to and from school safely. If your child has been injured in a car accident or as a pedestrian going to or coming home from school, contact Boca car accident lawyer Joe Osborne at (561) 800-4011 or fill out this online contact form. Are “Pilotless Planes” A Safety Risk?

New York City, NY, 09/07/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Over the past few years, “driverless” cars have captured people’s imaginations. The idea of an autonomous vehicle that effortlessly — and safely — gets you wherever you need to go without the need to lift a finger appeals to a lot of people who spend their days fighting traffic and dodging distracted or dangerous drivers. Several automakers and even tech companies have developed autonomous vehicles that are currently being tested on American roads.

But what about pilotless airplanes? It may sound like science fiction, but aviation experts say commercial airlines are taking the idea seriously. The only problem? Passengers may not be on board.

Would Pilotless Planes Make Air Travel Safer?

According to a recent survey conducted by UBS Evidence Lab, just 17 percent of respondents said they would fly on a pilotless plane. The survey polled 8,000 consumers, and over half said they wouldn’t fly on an autonomous plane even if the ticket was cheaper.

However, major airplane manufacturers like Boeing are already making plans to test pilotless technology. Boeing executives say the building blocks of the technology are already in place on unmanned drones that fly complicated missions for the military. They claim that autonomous planes could lower ticket prices and address the pilot shortage that has plagued the aviation industry.

Proponents of pilotless planes also say it’s possible that putting a computer in the cockpit could reduce crashes caused by human error. According to statistics released by Boeing, nearly 80 percent of commercial airline accidents are caused by human error.

But other aviation industry leaders aren’t so sure that pilotless air travel is the way of the future. Automation already exists in the cockpit, according to flight safety specialists for the British Airline Pilots Association, but human pilots must still intervene on a regular basis.

Aviation Experts Say Computer-Piloted Planes Are a Hacking Risk

Aviation experts also say that computer hacking could be an area of concern. They point to cases that have already occurred in high-tech vehicles equipped with self-driving technology. In 2015, for example, hackers in a controlled experiment broke into a Jeep over the internet, demonstrating that they could disable the brakes, shut down the engine, make the electronics malfunction, and even drive the vehicle off the road — all from behind a computer screen. Obviously, a commercial jetliner filled with 200 or more passengers and tons of jet fuel could cause a catastrophic accident if a hacker was able to break into the on board computers.

Is DNA Evidence Unreliable?

Dallas, Texas, 09/07/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

If you watch a lot of crime dramas on television, or you’re a fan of detective novels, you might believe that DNA evidence is the most foolproof way to determine if someone has committed a crime.

Furthermore, you wouldn’t be alone in thinking that. Researchers have found that jurors often have a difficult time interpreting probability when it comes to DNA evidence. Dr. Jonathan J. Koehler, an expert in behavior at the University of Texas at Austin, states, “Research indicates that people generally aren’t very good at interpreting probabilities, and they are easily swayed by the way statistics are presented.” For example, studies have found that jurors in a criminal trial are more impressed by a probability of 0.1 in 100 than one in 1,000 even though the two sets of figures are mathematically identical. In a 2005 Gallup poll, 58 percent of respondents said they believe DNA evidence is “very reliable.”

Probability is one thing, but what about outright mistakes? Disturbing stats show that DNA evidence is sometimes flat-out wrong, leading to wrongful convictions of innocent people.

How Often Is DNA Evidence Wrong?

Biologist Greg Hampikian, a founder of the Idaho Innocence Project and an advocate for the adoption of new DNA techniques, states, “Just because it’s DNA doesn’t mean it’s good science.” Hampikian has used DNA to help exonerate at least 12 people who were wrongfully convicted of crimes.

Another DNA researcher calls current DNA analysis in crime labs “the Wild West.” He adds that “too much is left to the analysts’ discretion.” In a study conducted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, 108 labs were asked to identify a single individual’s DNA sample in a mix of samples left on a ski mask. At the end of the experiment, 73 crime labs got it wrong.

In 2015, the FBI was forced to admit that mistakes in its crime labs involving microscopic hair comparison analysis resulted in errors in an overwhelming 90 percent of cases. As of 2016, the Innocence Project helped exonerate 178 people who were wrongfully convicted based on DNA evidence.

Jurors Have a Skewed View of DNA

One of the most troubling things about DNA evidence is how little jurors really understand it — and its shortcomings. Some courtroom experts call this the “CSI effect,” because jurors watch DNA used on television police and legal dramas and believe it’s infallible. In a 2008 study, a felony trial judge asked over 1,000 random jurors about their beliefs with respect to DNA. The results of the study support the “CSI effect.” Out of more than 1,000 people, 75 percent said they expect DNA evidence in rape cases, half said they expect to see it in murder cases, and 22 percent said they expect it in every type of case. In a separate study, researchers in Australia found that jurors in sexual assault cases are 33 times more likely to reach a guilty verdict if DNA evidence is presented.

Grace North Church Celebrates 125 Years In Berkeley

Berkeley, CA, USA, 09/07/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Grace North Church Celebrates 125 Years in Berkeley

Berkeley, California, September 1, 2017 — Grace North Church celebrates its 125th birthday on September 17, 2017.

In 1892, a handful of parishioners gathered in a living room to form North Congregational Church. The congregation has been an integral part of our north Berkeley heritage ever since.

North Congregational built its historic “Berkeley Bungalo Church” in 1913. Designed by James Plachek, it is a landmark building and widely admired as an architectural marvel. The building stands at 1601 Walnut Street.

A pillar of the Berkeley community for most of the 20th century, North Congregational struggled through the tumultuous 1960s, separating from the United Church of Christ and joining with the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches.

In the 1990s, amid dwindling numbers, the congregation merged with a breakaway Episcopal school, The Grace Institute for Religious Learning. Under the leadership of the Rev. Richard Mapplebeckplamer, the congregation changed its name to Grace North Church to honor the names and heritages of both groups.

In 2012, under the leadership of current pastor Rev. John Mabry, the congregation rejoined the United Church of Christ, providing a home base for many seminarians at the Graduate Theological Union. They are now dually aligned with the UCC and the NACCC.

Grace North Church maintains a lively presence in the Gourmet Ghetto neighborhood. Celebrating its unique blend of Anglican-style worship and Congregational polity, the congregation offers a progressive message and folk music led by a five-member band. Their teaching emphasizes Christian mysticism and interfaith dialogue. Grace North Church is LGBT-friendly and is registered as an “Open and Affirming” congregation.

Weekly worship is at 5pm on Sundays. They also host a monthly interfaith labyrinth walk on the last Friday of every month (January through October) from 6-7pm, where their band accompanies a contemplative labyrinth walk with interfaith chants.

The 125th Anniversary celebration takes place September 17, 2017 at 5pm. There will be a celebratory worship service with communion, followed by a champagne reception. The congregation promises there will be cake.

Philadelphia Burn Injury Lawyer Discusses Electric Shock Drowning

Philadelphia, 09/06/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Most people associate electrocution with workplace accidents, in which a powerful jolt of electricity from machinery or powerful equipment injures or kills a worker. While nine percent of workplace injuries are indeed caused by electric shocks, electrocution can be caused by a variety of things, including consumer products. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there are 70 deaths every year due to electric shocks from consumer products.

Electrocution can also happen in large bodies of water, such as swimming pools and lakes. The tragic deaths of three young women in two separate incidents has drawn important attention to the risk of “electric shock drowning.” The families of the victims involved in these horrific accidents are trying to spread awareness to help keep others safe.

What Is Electric Shock Drowning?

According to news reports, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that electric shock drownings are difficult to track because they are a “silent killer.” Electric shock drowning is caused by a low level of electric current running through a body of water.

The non-profit Electric Shock Drowning Association states, “There is no visible warning or way to tell if water surrounding boat, marina or dock is energized or within seconds will become energized with fatal levels of electricity.” Experts also say that electric shock drowning is more common in freshwater, where electricity can “shortcut” through the human body.

In one case, a 15-year-old girl drowned after being electrocuted when a metal ladder touched water around a dock where a light switch was half full of water. The electrical current ran from the light switch to the ladder and into the surrounding water.

In a separate incident, two women were killed after they went sunbathing and swimming in a lake. Autopsy reports revealed that the women were electrocuted.

How to Prevent Electric Shock Drowning

The family of the teenager who died due to electrocution while swimming now actively works to promote awareness of the rare phenomenon. They say there are several ways to make swimming safer:

Use a plastic ladder in the water rather than a metal one.
If you feel any tingling on your skin while swimming, swim away from any dock, as this is the most likely source of the electricity. Exit the water immediately.
Check all wiring around the dock, including the ground fault circuit breaker.

You can also purchase devices that detect electricity on a dock and in the water around it.

Philadelphia Burn Injury Lawyer Discusses Electrocution Accidents

Philadelphia burn injury lawyer Rand Spear explains, “Most people don’t associate swimming with electrocution, but tragic accidents can happen. It’s important for all parents, as well as swimming pool and lake owners, to be aware of the risks and to take steps to minimize them.”

Judges Award Wine Packaging Design Honors

San Rafael, CA, 09/06/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

JUDGES AWARD WINE PACKAGING DESIGN HONORS

Small Paso Robles, Calif., winery wins Best in Show; wooden boxes and pewter labels are keys to gold

Yountville, Calif.—The Fableist Wine Co., a 3,000-case winery from Paso Robles, Calif., won the Best in Show prize at the third annual Wine Packaging Design Awards. TV host and author Leslie Sbrocco announced the winners of five juried categories plus the People’s Choice award at the close of the Wine Packaging Conference organized by Wines & Vines magazine Aug. 16.

Encore Glass of Fairfield, Calif., submitted The Fableist for the Best Series Package Design category, including bottles of six different varietals at $20 per bottle, each with unique label art and names drawn from classic fables.

Curt Schalchlin, a principal in The Fableist, said, “My partner Andrew Jones and I have spent the majority of our adult lives in the wine business. We like to tell people that pretty much every fable or life lesson is something we can both relate to the world of wine.”

An independent panel of judges appreciated the detailed drawings on each label and their correlation with the fables that inspired each wine. Five judges representing the confluence of the wine retail, wine media and design fields selected gold, silver and bronze winners in the categories of Best Alternative Format, Best Classic Format, Best Luxury Package, Best Redesign and Best Series from 143 packages entered by wineries across North America. Best in Show was selected by the judges from among the five gold award winners.

The Wine Packaging Design Awards are unusual in the world of wine competitions since the wines are not tasted and rated on wine quality, but graded on their design quality, functionality, materials, creativity and appropriateness for their price segments, among other criteria.

“We were excited to see 18% more entries this year,” said Rebecca Arnn, the awards program manager and graphic designer at Wines & Vines. “And with our great panel of judges we were able to evaluate them carefully and professionally to pick outstanding examples of design.”

Judges were: Curtis Mann, wine, beer and spirits buyer at Raley’s Family of Fine Stores; Barbara Phillips-Barrett, creative director at Lamfers and Associates; Sara Schneider, wine editor of Sunset magazine; Barbara Gelfand Summer, graphic designer and owner of bibisummer.com; and Debbie Zachareas, proprietor and managing partner at Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant and the Oxbow Cheese and Wine Merchant.

A hand-applied, embossed pewter medallion helped King Estate take the gold in the Luxury category for wines retailing at $50 and above.

The People’s Choice Award, chosen by conference attendees from among the top 50 juried wines, went to Raymond Vineyards for its 40th anniversary Cabernet Sauvignon that carries a red velvet-textured label.

Insurance & Accident Cases Go Together Says Boca Car Accident Lawyer Joe Osborne

Boca Raton, FL, USA, 09/06/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

If you’re injured in a car accident and file a lawsuit though the defendant is the other driver, it’s actually an insurance company who’s paying for the defense attorney and it would pay a settlement or court award. Personal injury law and insurance law are two sides of the same coin. In most of our cases the defendant has at least one insurance policy covering the accident.

Auto insurance covers the harm done in an accident. That harm can be to vehicles and property and also the harm done to people by injuries.

Collision coverage is for damage to your vehicle if you are at fault in an accident. This can be caused by hitting another vehicle or an object.

Property damage liability coverage pays for physical damage caused by at fault drivers to other vehicles and property due to accidents.

Comprehensive coverage is to pay you in case of theft or damage to an insured’s vehicles that happen because of something other than a vehicle accident.

Insurance coverage to pay for injuries caused by an accident varies from state to state. Florida has a no-fault insurance system so crash injury costs are paid under the injured person’s first party personal injury protection coverage (PIP) no matter who’s at fault. There are limits in the policy based on the amount of money or injury severity. Costs that go over the limits could be covered by an at fault driver’s bodily injury liability coverage.

Personal injury protection (PIP) coverage pays up to a set amount for injuries no matter who caused an accident. The minimum amount varies from state to state (Florida’s minimum is $10,000). That amount needs to be exceeded before someone who’s injured can sue an at fault party for additional costs.

PIP coverage pays 80% of all reasonable and medically necessary medical treatment and services, 60% of lost wages and funeral expenses, subject to certain defenses and exceptions.

Florida vehicle owners should purchase more PIP coverage, known as “extended PIP,” when possible. Unless injuries are relatively minor it’s very easy for medical costs of treatment of an accident injury plus lost wages to be more than $10,000.

If you’re in a single vehicle accident, involved in a hit and run and the other driver isn’t found or he or she lacks insurance, if you just have the minimum PIP coverage $10,000 is all you will get from your insurer to cover your medical expenses and lost wages. It’s wise to pay for as much PIP coverage as you can afford.

NFM Lending is pleased to honor Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3) Thomas Nicola, Jr. as the NFM Salute for September 2017.

Born and raised in Coal Township, PA, CW3 Nicola is currently assigned as the Quality Assurance Officer for Submarine Squadron 7 in Pearl Harbor, HI, and is entering his 20th year of active duty service with the U.S. Navy. CW3 Nicola enlisted in October of 1997 as a Nuclear Machinist Mate, Engineering Laboratory Technician. He has completed tours on board the USS Harry S Truman CVN 75, USS Ronald Reagan CVN 76 and USS Carl Vinson CVN 70 (all nuclear power aircraft carriers); he also did a tour at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. He has completed eight overseas deployments, and is slated to retire in May 2018.

CW3 Nicola was nominated by his cousin, Candy Belfield.

“Thomas is my cousin and friend,” said Belfield. “I am so proud of his accomplishments in the Navy during his career. He has given most of his life to serving our country, including time away from friends and family during deployments. I am thankful there are people like Thomas to serve and protect, and thankful to NFM for recognizing him.”

The NFM Salute is an initiative in which one military member or Veteran is chosen each month to be honored as the “Salute of the Month.” Salutes are chosen from nominations on the NFM Salute website, www.nfmsalute.com. The “Salute of the Month” will be featured on the website with a brief biography and information about his or her service, and NFM Lending will make a $2,500 donation to a military or Veteran non-profit in the Salute’s name. CW3 Nicola chose The Gary Sinise Foundation to receive this month’s donation.

Selected NFM Salutes may choose from one of the following three non-profits: Platoon 22, AnySoldier, and the Gary Sinise Foundation. NFM looks forward to the opportunity to continue to honor military and Veterans through the NFM Salute initiative.
