Philadelphia Truck Accident Lawyer: New Regulations To Reduce Truck Accidents

Philadelphia, 05/11/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

If you drive down any busy highway, you’re guaranteed to see a large number of semi-trucks. While most semi operators obey the law, they also drive on the clock, and they suffer financial consequences if they don’t make deliveries on schedule. With so much pressure to “get it there faster,” it’s no wonder that semi-truck drivers sometimes push and exceed speed limits, says Rand Spear Philadelphia truck accident lawyer.

Now, a proposed federal rule wants to change that. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) have come together to propose changes to the law that would require trucks weighing over 26,000 pounds to be outfitted with a device that would prevent them from driving over a certain speed.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the trucking industry has been vocal in its opposition to the proposed rule. One popular trucking website that features an opinion from the executive director of the National Motorists Association Foundation that states: “…there’s plenty of evidence that shows why devices that keep trucks from accelerating above a certain level for what is likely to be a short distance isn’t a good idea.”

Stats on Large Truck Crashes

However, proponents of the speed limiter rule say you need only look at the recent large truck crash statistics to find evidence to support the proposed rule.

Data gathered by the FMCSA reveals that excessive speed contributes to over 33 percent of all traffic accidents, with 23 percent of those involving large trucks. In 2014 alone, semi-trucks and buses were involved in more than 4,000 crashes.

Currently, federal regulators are considering three proposed maximum speed limits for the limiting technology: 60, 65, and 68 miles per hour.

Philadelphia Truck Accident Lawyer Discusses Semis and Excessive Speed

Philadelphia truck accident lawyer Rand Spear states, “There’s no question that speed contributes to a lot of semi-truck accidents. If the proposed rule passes, truckers would be forced to drive at reduced speeds, which could in turn reduce the number of speed-related collisions on the nation’s highways.”

However, opponents of the rule point out that slowing down semis could have unintended consequences, such as more traffic congestion, which could lead to an increase in accidents. They also claim that speed limiters could make other motorists frustrated, causing a spike in road rage incidents.

Have you been injured in a semi-truck accident caused by a truck driver who was driving too fast? Don’t wait to speak to a personal injury lawyer about your case. Protect your rights by calling Philadelphia and New Jersey truck accident lawyer Rand Spear today at 877-GET-RAND.

Farida Is A Brilliant And Talented Actress Who Has Brought Tears To Audiences

Los Angeles, CA, USA, 05/11/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Words of Solace

Farida Abdel Aziz is a brilliant and talented actress who has brought tears to audiences in both film and television because of her impeccable ability to play emotional roles, and her performance in Words, a movie written by Lamia Alshwwier and Farida Abdel Aziz. The movie was screened at the Warner Brothers Studio, and is on it’s way to the film festival in Dubai as well as other places all over the world.

Words is a drama film about a little girl named Haya who was raped by a plumber. When she got older she traveled to Los Angeles to start a new life. Haya attempts to drown out her pain from the past in drugs, alcohol, shady friends, and even religion. No matter how hard she tries to kill her horrible memories of the past, and forget her painful ordeal nothing helps her achieve this goal. Eventually she decides to publish a video on the web, in which she proceeds to discuss how she was sexually abused as a child.

Farida’s depiction of the character Haya is positively astounding. Unlike most actresses she has a unique gift, for playing three dimensional characters that have the quality, of being very believable. Her character has a multitude of complex emotions to deal with, resulting from the troublesome past she had, when she was raped at a very young age. There are no words to describe how well Farida acted out the role of Haya in this movie. She created an impassioned, intense atmosphere in the film Words that also went into great depth, about the seriousness of sexual abuse, and violence against women.

Words is one of the simplest titles ever used for a film. Despite it’s modesty, this title sums up what the character Haya is trying to do, after being physically and emotionally abused. She is making an effort to speak and make her voice heard, by posting a video on the internet to share her pains, and struggles with the rest of the world but to no avail. She gets ridiculed in the process, and the comments section of her page ends up getting filled, with hateful comments from viewers. Heartless and cruel people write to Haya making statements such as “you deserve to die” and other violent, and sexist language that claim she was looking for attention. After being attacked, in the most vicious and personal way Haya contemplates, whether or not she should commit suicide. Her confidence is restored, after seeing some positive responses to her first video, and she decides to record another video and keep on living until she heals.

Some of the films Farida starred in recently included both drama and action movies. The movie Words will be very well received at film festivals, and in theatres around the world. In the artistic and glamorous world of acting, Farida is a true entertainer, who earned her place on the stage with distinction. She is also highly respected for her willingness to play difficult roles that involve hate crimes, social issues, and other controversial problems.

TGV-inhalonix’s New Drug To Help Patients With Resistant Fungal Lung Infections

New York, New York, USA, 05/11/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

TGV-inhalonix, a New York drug development company behind ground-breaking Mul-1867 which gives hope to treating life-threatening, antibiotic-resistant bacterial lung infections in patients suffering from cystic fibrosis, announced that Mul-1867 has shown tremendous potential against clinical isolates of fungi from patients with cystic fibrosis and other severe lung infections.

The findings were published in Europe’s leading discovery journal –  International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents – and will be presented at the upcoming ASM – 2017 conference in June.

The article written by Victor and George Tetz, the scientific core at TGV-inhalonix, details the results of a collaborative study along with VA Medical Center and University of Massachusetts for antifungal activity of Mul-1867. The authors report that they revealed high activity of Mul-1867 against multidrug-resistant strains of Candida spp and Aspergillus spp, which are especially risky for people with cystic fibrosis and patients with compromised immune system including those with lung transplans. “Fungal infections represent a crucial and unsolved problem for patients with cystic fibrosis, playing a dramatic role in their morbidity,” as stated by the researchers.

“We have already confirmed a broad spectrum activity of Mul-1867 against multiresistant bacterial isolates such as S.aureus and P.aeruginosa along with early, compassionate use human clinical data. Its high anti-infective efficacy could make it a breakthrough new agent for addressing a variety of lung infections starting with those in Cystic Fibrosis patients,” said Dr. George Tetz.

For a few decades, the problem of antibiotic resistant fungal infections posed treatment challenges in patients suffering from a variety of pathologies and finding a solution is crucial for cystic fibrosis patients. “Our studies indicate that Mul-1687 also holds promise as a treatment against numerous other lung indications with fungal etiology, including HIV, blood malignancies and can help patients undergoing lung transplantations. We believe our research has unlocked a key for slowing the growth of these potentially fatal antibiotic-resistant pathogens,” said Dr. Victor Tetz.

“The recent increase in the incidence of life-threatening infections caused by resistant fungi, including Candida and Aspergillus, is particularly concerning, because currently available antifungal agents may no longer be effective,” said Dr. Haran T Schlamm of HTS Pharma Consulting, LLC, an advisor to TGV-Inhalonix.

TGV-inhalonix has recently obtained an Orphan Drug status for Mul-1867, which will provide incentives to develop drugs for treating rare diseases.

The research from the TGV-inhalonix study has also been accepted to an upcoming ASM Microbe 2017 conference and European Cystic Fibrosis Conference 2017, both of which will take place in June.

Incapacitated Drivers Threaten Others Says Boca Car Accident Lawyer Joe Osborne

Boca Raton, FL, USA, 05/10/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

A driver facing a health crisis behind the wheel may only have partial control of the vehicle or none at all. Hopefully he or she will be able to safely pull over and get medical help. All too often it’s not the driver stopping the car, it stops because it hits an object or another vehicle. If such an accident occurs multiple people could be facing health crises due to injuries says Boca car accident lawyer Joe Osborne.

This type of  car accident is not uncommon. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) studied a sample of 5,471 accidents that occurred nationwide from July 2005 through December 2007. It found that 2.4% of the accidents were caused by drivers having heart attacks or other physical impairments while driving.

Though the dangers of people falling asleep behind the wheel are better known, NHTSA found they were only a slightly greater risk, causing 3.2% of the accidents. Other conditions and factors similarly related to accidents as an incapacitated driver include driving when it’s snowing or sleeting (2.7%), at dusk (2.6%), while changing lanes (2.1%), swerving to avoid another vehicle (3%) and poor road conditions (2%).

During that time frame there were 2,041,943 accidents across the country. NHTSA estimates 48,822 of them were caused by incapacitated drivers. In Florida in 2015 there were 374,342 traffic accidents. If NHTSA’s estimate of the share of accidents caused by incapacitated drivers is accurate, almost 9,000 of those accidents were related to drivers suddenly too ill to drive. That would mean about 25 accidents a day were caused by incapacitated drivers in Florida in 2015.

There are real people behind these numbers. Last month two men were killed in an accident in Palm Beach County that involved a driver possibly suddenly incapacitated by a health issue. It happened on the Florida Turnpike, according to the Miami Herald.

One driver pulled his pickup truck, with a trailer attached, onto the right shoulder of the northbound lanes. He got out of the vehicle and was next to the trailer when he was hit by a tractor trailer.

The Florida Highway Patrol believe the truck driver may have suffered a medical problem while driving, causing it to hit the victim and his pickup, then the truck continued and struck a chain link fence. The first driver was killed at the scene. The truck driver later died at St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach.

In these types of situations the driver suddenly too ill to drive is not necessarily at fault when it comes to a legal action seeking compensation for injuries to victims. Under Florida law the driver may have a valid defense if:

The defendant suffered a loss of consciousness or capacity.

That loss occurred before the defendant’s allegedly negligent conduct (such as striking another vehicle).

The loss was sudden.

The loss was not foreseen by the driver nor could the driver have foreseen it.

This defense wouldn’t apply if the driver was aware of facts sufficient to cause a reasonably prudent person to anticipate that he or she might lose consciousness or become incapacitated while driving and that driving or operating a vehicle under the circumstances would likely result in an accident.

In such a case the driver’s medical history would be key to the case, including what the person may have been diagnosed with, his or her medications or treatments, and whether the person was warned he or she may suddenly lose control or consciousness or that it was unsafe to drive.

If you or a loved one suffered an injury caused by a driver who suddenly became incapacitated, contact Boca car accident lawyer Joe Osborne at (561) 800-4011 or fill out this online contact form. You can discuss your case, how the law may apply and your best legal options to protect your rights and obtain compensation for your injuries.

NY State Personal Injury Lawyer Discusses What Not To Do After A Head Injury

New York City, NY, 05/10/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Although many people associate brain injuries with contact sports, the reality is that traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) are caused by a variety of accidents. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1.7 million Americans suffer a TBI every year. These injuries are caused by car accidents, slips and falls, playground injuries, and many other types of accidents.

TBIs are also a factor in a third of all accident-related deaths in the United States. Each year, 52,000 people die after suffering a TBI. Brain injuries are also a leading cause of disability in the U.S., with over 5.3 million Americans suffering a permanent disability due to a TBI.

NYC Personal Injury Lawyer Explains What Not to Do After a Head Injury

In many cases, knowing what not to do after an injury is just as important as knowing what steps to take following an accident. If you suspect you’ve suffered a TBI, it’s important to avoid doing anything that could exacerbate it.

Get Medical Help Right Away – The first step to take after any head injury is to seek medical treatment. The symptoms of a serious TBI aren’t always immediately obvious. See a medical professional to get appropriate treatment.

Don’t Move Someone with a Head Injury – Never move a person who has sustained a head injury that causes them to fall to the ground or lose consciousness. You can’t be certain that they haven’t also suffered a spinal injury. If you move them, you could accidentally cause the vertebrae to shift, which can make the injury much worse. If the person is wearing a helmet, don’t remove it. Wait for medical professionals to do it.

Don’t Wash Deep Wounds – Don’t try to wash head injuries that are deep or bleeding profusely. Instead, get medical care as quickly as possible so the wounds can be cleaned in a safe, sterile environment.

Don’t Shake Someone Who Is Faint or Woozy – Your first instinct might be to gently shake someone who has suffered a blow to the head and looks like they’re on the verge of passing out. However, it’s important to never shake someone who has suffered a head injury. This can make the injury worse, and it could also make a spinal cord or neck injury more serious. Instead, leave the person in place until emergency medical personnel arrive.

NYC Personal Injury Lawyer Discusses Pedestrian Injuries

New York City personal injury lawyer Jonathan C. Reiter states, “Traumatic brain injuries are common, yet many people don’t know how to react when they or someone they love suffers one. It’s important to never dismiss the potential seriousness of this type of injury. Don’t assume that the person is okay, or that the injury isn’t that serious. Always see a doctor if you or a loved one suffers a TBI.”

If you have been injured in an accident that resulted in any kind of head injury, protect your rights as soon as possible. Talk to a New York City personal injury lawyer today to discuss your case.

The Possible Link Between Air Pollution And The Stock Market

Riverdale, NJ, 05/10/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

By now, the dangers of air pollution are well documented, especially as it relates to children and the elderly, who have weaker immune systems, and people who suffer from respiratory problems. But a new study has found a link between air pollution and the stock market, which may indicate that bad air quality is not just a health issue, it may also be an economic hazard.

“Traditionally, we know about the health problems that are associated with bad air quality,” stated Kevin Wood, Camfil USA Vice President Sales & Marketing. “But now we are starting to see that perhaps there is an economic price to pay that is directly related to air quality, and that may help open the eyes of some government officials throughout the world about paying more attention to air pollution.”

The Study

Per an article in the Harvard Business Review titled Air Pollution Brings Down the Stock Market, (1) writer Scott Berinato interviewed Anthony Heyes, a University of Ottawa Economics Professor who conducted the study.

Heyes analyzed information from the S&P 500 index and compared it to the daily air-quality reports provided by an EPA sensor in Wall Street, located in New York.

Heyes and his team found a correlation between high levels of air pollution and low stock performance, which lead them to conclude that bad air quality negatively affects the stock market.

According to Heyes:

“Every time air quality decreased by one standard deviation, we saw a 12% reduction in stock returns. Or to put it in other terms, if you ordered 100 trading days in New York from the cleanest-air day to the dirtiest-air day, the S&P 500 performance would be 15% worse on the 75th cleanest day than it was on the 25th cleanest day. We also replicated this analysis using data from the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq, and saw the same effect.”

Heyes believes that higher rates of pollutants in the air affect people’s emotional state, making them more likely to feel depressed.

“[Bad air] negatively affects how you feel and how good you are at thinking,” Heyes stated. “Two, bad moods and lower cognitive capabilities tend to reduce your appetite for risk. Low risk tolerance is associated with lower returns.”

Related Effects of Air Pollution

Heyes’ study that air pollution can affect people’s mood doesn’t exist in a vacuum, however, because a 2015 University of Utah study found a link between suicides and elevated levels of air pollution.

Per an article in Live Science, (2) the study analyzed information on 1,546 suicides in Salt Lake County from 2000 to 2010.

“Researchers then compared the timing of these suicides with air pollution levels, including fine and coarse particulate matter, nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide from Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) monitors in the county. They found that suicide risk went up two to three days after levels of fine particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide rose.”

The study also found that the link between suicide and air pollution was most prevalent in men ages 25 to 64, and that suicide rates were highest in the spring and fall.

Amanda Bakian, an epidemiologist at the University of Utah and the author of the study, said:

“What it makes us think is that air pollution interacts with other spring and fall risk factors for suicide.”

And while the researchers stopped short of declaring a direct causation between air pollution and suicides, they do show a correlation that is disturbing and worthy of further study.

Research has also shown that bad air quality may be correlated to a spike in violent crime.

An article on Breitbart (3) cited a National Bureau of Economic Research study conducted by researchers at the University of California, Davis, which found that violent crime in Chicago increased when air pollution levels were higher.

The study analyzed two million crimes reported by the Chicago Police Department from 2001 to 2012, and “noted the direction of the wind as it blew across neighborhoods near five interstate highways…”

Researchers then factored in precipitation, temperature, wind speed and wind direction during that time and found that serious crimes such as rape and homicide increased by 2.2 percent in neighborhoods that were downwind of those interstates that also had higher levels of nitrous oxides.

Doctors have found that nitrous oxide can affect the part of the brain that causes people to act with aggression.

Again, the study only found a correlation, not a direct causation, but it is clear that increased air pollution can have a negative effect on human behavior.

Potholes Can Damage Cars & Cause Accidents Says Philadelphia Car Accident Lawyer

Philadelphia, PS, USA, 05/10/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Now that it’s spring the weather is warmer, wetter and the potholes are in full bloom. They’re not only a pain to drive around and damaging to your car if you hit one, but they could cause an accident. Philadelphia car accident lawyer Rand Spear says potholes pose a danger to pedestrians and all those using the roads.

A pothole forms when water collects beneath the pavement and repeatedly freezes and thaws. As time goes on that cycle causes the pavement to buckle. As more traffic passes over the area and more freezing and thawing takes place, more pavement breaks up and the pothole can get wider and deeper. They are especially common on poorly maintained roads where cracks allow water to get under the pavement and in areas with poor drainage.

If you drive your vehicle fast enough into a pothole that’s deep enough you can blow a tire, bend a tire rim, damage the front end alignment and your suspension. As a result you could lose control of your car and strike an object or another vehicle. If you swerve around a pothole in order to avoid it you could also hit another vehicle, guardrail, pedestrian or other object.

Those on motorcycles and bicycles face the possibility of serious injuries if they’re thrown off after hitting a pothole or they may swerve into the path of a vehicle while trying to stay away from it. A Michigan woman crashed her motorcycle near Springport last month, apparently because she was trying to avoid potholes in the road, causing serious injuries, reports Michigan Live. If an accident happens because a roadway is not safely maintained the government body responsible for maintaining the road may be liable for damages.

This time of year not only do drivers need to be wary of all the hazards that normally come with driving but they need to be on the lookout for potholes as well. If you’re driving too fast it may be too late to safely slow down to avoid damage from hitting it or to safely steer around it. If you’re driving at night a pothole in a poorly lit area can be a hazard that can easily sneak up on you.

Depending on the location of the pothole and the amount of traffic in the area the safest thing you could do is hit the pothole instead of veering off into another lane and risking a collision with another vehicle. Fixing that bent tire rim or getting a new alignment will cost you far less than the body work needed for your car or the medical costs and lost time at work due to injuries from a crash.

Depending on the circumstances if your vehicle is damaged due to striking a pothole you may be able to file a claim to re-pay you for repairs with the government body responsible for that section of road. If that happens to you, take pictures of the pothole if you can safely do so and work with your mechanic to document the damage and the cost of repairs. These are websites to help you seek reimbursement from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of New Jersey because of vehicle damage caused by potholes.

If you or a family member has been injured in a vehicle accident caused by a poorly maintained road or a pothole, don’t wait to speak to a personal injury lawyer about your case. Protect your rights to compensation by calling new Jersey and Philadelphia car accident lawyer Rand Spear today at 877-GET-RAND.

Philadelphia Car Accident Lawyer On The Top 3 Distractions For Teens Driving

Philadelphia, 05/09/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Unfortunately, the statistics about teen drivers aren’t going to do much to ease your fears. According to a comprehensive study conducted by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, teen drivers have the highest number of accidents by far of any age demographic, reports Philadelphia car accident lawyer Rand Spear.

Distractions Are the Leading Cause of Teen Car Accidents

The study, which examined data from 2007 through 2015, looked at over 2,000 car accidents involving drivers between the ages of 16 and 19.

Male drivers were involved in 51.3% of all crashes.
Female drivers were involved in 48.5% of all crashes.
Crashes were more frequent during the week, with 71.5% occurring on a weekday.
Passengers were present in one-third of all crashes.

Parents will be happy to know that seat belt use among teens is quite high. In 93.5% of all car accidents in the study, the driver was wearing a seat belt.

Parents will also be relieved to know that there are several things they can do to help their young drivers avoid car accidents. According to AAA, driving distractions are a leading cause of teen car accidents. In fact, over half (58.5%) of car accidents involving a teen driver were caused by distractions behind the wheel.

The Top 3 Teen Driver Distractions

Spoiler alert: The top teen driver distraction is not cell phones adds car crash attorney Spear.

According to the study, teen drivers are most often distracted by something in their vehicle, a mobile phone, and passengers — with passengers being the number one cause of teen driver distraction.

#3 Looking at something inside the vehicle – The third-leading teen driver distraction involved looking at an object inside the vehicle. This distraction accounted for nearly 10% of all crashes.

#2 Mobile phone use – Nearly 12% of all teen car accidents were caused by a distraction related to cell phone use, including texting and emailing while driving.

#1 Passengers – By far, the biggest distraction for teen drivers is passengers. Of the accidents studied, 14% were caused by a teen driver distracted by other people in the vehicle.

Philadelphia car accident lawyer Rand Spear explains, “Parents of teen drivers should seriously consider restricting their young drivers to just one passenger in the car at a time. As any parent knows, it’s common for teens to pile into a car together. While this may be fun, it can also be dangerous. Any conversation or movement that takes a driver’s eyes off the road is a potentially deadly distraction. Limiting the number of passengers is one way to help teen drivers be more responsible behind the wheel.”

“It is important for businesses, big or small, to understand their website’s technical performance,” said Damon Burton, SEO National President. “Large agencies can spend tens of thousands of dollars analyzing their websites, but our aim in releasing this free SEO software is to look out for the little guys who don’t have access to those resources.”

SEO National is a leader in the Internet marketing industry and has worked with Shark Tank-featured businesses like Spoonful of Comfort, Inc. 5000 companies like DealYard, and eMoov-the U.K.’s top online estate agency. Visit www.SEOnational.com or call 1-855-SEO-NATL to try the free SEO report auditor or learn more about the company’s services.
