Introducing When Your Heart Belongs To An Addict: A Healing Perspective

Littleton, 02/03/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

For each of the 24.1 million* people in the U.S. who suffer from substance abuse addiction, there are at least four people who love them. This means 120.5 million people including parents; siblings; relatives; friends; boyfriends, girlfriends; children; spouses; teachers and co-workers—suffer from the effects of drug addiction in the U.S.

Author Cyndee Rae Lutz has experienced the pain and powerlessness of watching someone she loved, get lost in addiction. In her new book When Your Heart Belongs to an Addict: a Healing Perspective (Flip the Hippo Publishing, February 2017), Lutz shows how her struggles with an addicted son have taught her about the addictions and afflictions we all confront—about individual frailties and the various ways we try to manage the unmanageable.

“This twisted form of love undermines what we so desperately wish to achieve and makes us lose our own way,” says Lutz, “but we are more powerful and more worthwhile than our addicted loved ones would have us believe.”

Lutz weaves the painful account of her son’s drug addiction with the healing strategies and spiritual wisdom that transformed her life—and can transform others, whether they’re facing a crisis or wanting to change direction. Her fusion of powerful ideas, concrete steps, and pertinent examples results in a book that both liberates and empowers the often-beleaguered family member or friend to reclaim their life. And this just might be the best thing they can do for their loved one. Often, when they get better, their loved one gets better too.

Know The HALT Triggers Says Addiction Treatment Center Summit Behavioral Health

New Jersey, 02/06/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

We’ve discussed recovery triggers on our blog in the past, but it’s always helpful to revisit the topic, as triggers are generally a major obstacle in any recovery reports Summit Behavioral Health, an addiction treatment center with locations in New Jersey and Massachusetts.

Although triggers can vary from person to person, there are four triggers that tend to rear their ugly heads for just about everyone from time to time. An easy way to remember these triggers is by using the acronym HALT, which stands for hunger, anger, loneliness, and tiredness.

Overcoming the HALT Triggers

One of the best things you can do for yourself as you begin your recovery is to be aware of which triggers affect you the most. When you have identified the things that tempt you to relapse, you can do a more effective job of avoiding them. It may sound simple, but it’s amazing how quickly life and responsibilities can take over, causing you to overlook possible triggers in your path.

There is a reason the famous Snickers “you’re not you when you’re hungry” advertising campaign was so successful. Many people experience personality changes, including irritability, when they are hungry. All you have to do is take a glance at what happens to your body after just six hours without food to understand why hunger is such a common trigger. If you’re in a high-stress environment where you can’t break to grab a meal, pack some on-the-go food items, such as protein bars or string cheese.
People don’t always act rationally when they’re angry. If you have ever hit “send” on an angry email, only to regret it a few hours later after you have calmed down, you know how anger can lead you to do and say things you shouldn’t. When your temper is ready to boil over, turn your focus toward something fun or relaxing. Indulge in a bubble bath or do something physically demanding like going for a hike or a jog.
Fortunately, social media and technology have made it easier to connect with friends, even when you can’t meet up in person. If you’re feeling lonely and can’t find time to do lunch or take in a movie with a friend or loved one, jump on a phone call or ask someone you care about to talk online. If you feel comfortable, you can share that you’re struggling with loneliness and worried about relapsing. Sometimes, just talking about your concerns can help you work through them in a constructive way.
According to studies, up to one-third of Americans don’t get enough sleep. Sleep-deprivation can lead to a host of problems, including drowsy driving and delayed reaction times that put you in danger. Chronic sleep-deprivation can also make it easier to indulge in over-the-counter medications and substances that are supposed to perk you up. If you’re in recovery, however, even something like caffeine pills or caffeinated drinks can open the door to a relapse.

Can You Still Have Fun Without Alcohol? New Jersey Alcohol Rehab Center

New Jersey, 02/07/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

New Jersey Alcohol Rehab Center Weighs in on Addiction: Many people enjoy alcohol in moderation. An occasional drink can make people feel less inhibited and a bit more relaxed, which is why alcohol is so often served at parties, dinners, and get-togethers, states Summit Behavioral Health a New Jersey alcohol rehab center. However, there is a big difference between social drinking and problem drinking. Too much alcohol can cause significant changes in the chemicals in the brain, leading to dangerous impairment. Prolonged alcohol abuse can also damage internal organs and cause life-threatening damage to the liver.

For people with alcohol abuse disorder, even a single drink can lead to a relapse. For this reason, part of lasting recovery for most people is total abstinence from drinking. This may lead some people to question whether it’s possible to truly let themselves go and enjoy a good party or gathering with friends or co-workers.

The good news is that sobriety doesn’t have to mean saying goodbye to your social life. On the contrary, many people who have overcome alcohol addiction say that giving up alcohol has allowed them to truly enjoy being social for the first time in years. Others find new hobbies. Here are three ways that maintaining your sobriety can improve your life.

Making Room for New Interests

If drinking was a major part of your life, finding something new to explore can help fill the void of giving up social or recreational drinking. For example, you may discover you love working out. For other people, giving up alcohol means finding the freedom and the time to devote themselves more fully to a hobby or interest. Whether you take up painting, biking, or tending a garden, channel your energy into something positive and productive.

Meeting New People

When you’re mired in addiction, it can feel like you’re the only person in the world struggling with dependency. Getting sober often means discovering that there are many other people who have overcome similar struggles. Finding this common ground can open you up to a whole new set of friends with a variety of interests.

Enjoying Every Moment

Much has been said about the so-called smartphone epidemic in the U.S. In fact, “smartphone addiction2” is a real problem that has been identified by addiction specialists as a major health hazard. Part of the problem is that looking at the world through a screen often means missing out on many aspects of an experience. For example, if you spend most of a rock concert taking video of the performance, you probably miss out on the emotions expressed by the singer and the nuances of the songs.

Drinking has a lot more in common with smartphone use than you might think. Like seeing the world through a screen, drinking forces you to view everything through a less of impairment. Your senses are blunted, and your memories usually end up foggy.

When you’re sober, you can truly enjoy every moment of an experience, whether it’s a birthday party, a concert with friends, or dinner with people you care about.

PROSPER Show Announces Private-Label Speakers For 2017 Show

Las Vegas, Nevada, 02/17/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

The PROSPER Show, an organization that focuses on sharing best-practice education and research materials, is helping online sellers become more efficient and profitable. The organization’s conferences link Amazon sellers with leading solution and service providers who can help them scale their businesses more efficiently.

This year’s PROSPER Show will be held March 22-23 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. PROSPER Show has confirmed several high-profile speakers specializing in private-label business success. Private-label products are manufactured by one company and then rebranded and marketed by another company. Companies can build brand loyalty by marketing these products as if they were their own. The products are typically equal or better than their branded equivalent.

PROSPER Show is proud to announce the following speakers, all highly respected leaders in the private-label industry, in conjunction with their Amazon sellers show.

Rick Cesari – Cesari will serve as the show’s keynote speaker. He has marketed dozens of brands, catapulting them from small private-label brands into well-known household names such as the George Foreman Grill, Clarisonic, GoPro, and many others. Founder and CEO of Cesari Direct Marketing in Seattle, Washington, Cesari is the author of “Buy Now: Creative Marketing that Gets Customers to Respond to You and Your Product,” the soon-to-be-released book “Grow your Brand, Grow your Business,” and an online course for developing brands (“Brand Imagined”).
Nick Cunningham – A retired Major in the Royal Marines Commandos, the U.K. equivalent of Green Berets, Cunningham moved to China and established China 2 West. The company has 60 staff members in mainland China and supplies products and services to different U.S. companies. Cunningham speaks Chinese and has more than 12 years experience in development, manufacturing, and supply chain management in Asia. He will lead an advanced workshop on private-label sourcing on March 21, the day before the PROSPER Show.
Sean Smith – The co-founder and CEO of Jungle Hustle, a launch strategy and optimization agency serving Amazon sellers, Smith built his first six-figure Amazon business in just 10 months while working full-time for eight of those months. He has since taken his obsession with fast business growth and selling on Amazon by building an Amazon seller service agency.
Eric Tong – Tong co-founded TechArmor, one of the largest private-label brands on Amazon. He was the Vice President of Asia Pacific for Belkin Corporation with overall general management and profit-and-loss responsibilities for the entire Asia-Pacific region. He helped grow Belkin into a $1 billion company.
Joerg Kundrath and Kai Klement – These two ex-Amazonians co-founded a large private label in Europe. They focus on how to use social media to drive business.

The PROSPER Show’s ecommerce conference has expanded significantly from last year, outgrowing its former Salt Palace venue in Salt Lake City, Utah and prompting a move to the Las Vegas Convention Center. This year’s PROSPER Show will be co-locating with SourceDirect, a show within the ASD MarketWeek series. SourceDirect welcomes hundreds of factories from overseas and gives Amazon private-label sellers the opportunity to meet a wide range of prospective suppliers, all without having to go overseas.

Workshops for the PROSPER Show begin on March 21, the day before the show opens. To read more about other speakers or for tickets, visit www.ProsperShow.com.

Torch Cigar Bar Sets New Hours & Inventory Ahead Of MLB Spring Training

Scottsdale, Arizona, 02/17/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Torch Cigar Bar, the alluring Phoenix cigar bar that opened in June 2016 is the new gold standard in cigar bars and lounges in Arizona. With its 1,800 square foot patio, possibly one of the largest in the nation, Torch Cigar Bar has become a sanctuary for lovers of fine cigars and spirits. In preparation for increased guests due to MLB Spring Training 2017, Torch Cigar Bar is opening with new hours and expanded inventory of fine cigars and bourbons.

With the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series, there is added excitement ahead of this month’s pitcher-and-catcher report days in Arizona, the home state of Torch Cigar Bar. Many players have been in town for the last week, with full-squad days on February 17 and 18.

With Torch Cigar’s welcoming environment, nestled within an upscale setting, Torch Cigar Bar has become a hot sport for athletes and celebrities. Its popularity has quickly risen due to its trendy location, decadent interiors, and an impressive lineup of hard-to-find cigars and liquors.

Rivaling upscale Scottsdale cigar clubs, Torch Cigar Bar’s recent Cigars with the Stars event was a sell-out success. As one of the greatest linebackers in football history, Ray Lewis played for the Baltimore Ravens, was selected for 13 Pro Bowls, named All-Pro ten times, and a Super Bowl MVP. Eric Davis, a baseball star known as the best comeback athlete after re-starting his career in 1996 with the Cincinnati Reds where he was inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 2006, joined Lewis. But the greatest surprise during Cigars with Stars was the unexpected appearance of Olympic champion Michael Phelps, a native of Baltimore where Lewis played.

Jon Harrington, Founder of Torch Cigar Bar, comments, “We’re excited for our sophomore year welcoming the finest athletes to Arizona. Stay tuned for upcoming events as we welcome athletes and celebrities to our beautiful space with contemporary design, new-fashioned furnishings and comfortable atmosphere at Torch Cigar Bar.”

Torch Cigar Bar continues to make innovative moves, the latest of which is adding a hostess to their lounge to show their dedication to customer service. Their venue is a haven for cigar enthusiasts who are looking for a place with flair, where they can luxuriate in its beautiful humidors featuring the greatest cigars from across the globe. As the MLB Spring Training goes on full swing, stop by Torch Cigar Bar and enjoy the world’s finest cigars and liquors. How Exercise Helps With Addiction Treatment

Massachusetts (MA) Young Adult Residential Treatment Tips

New Jersey, 02/15/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

We all know that exercise can boost emotional as well as physical health. Getting moving is a priority for most people, and nearly everyone wouldn’t mind shedding a few pounds or simply toning up, but many don’t realize the positive impact on addiction treatment. What you may not realize is just how important exercise is for keeping your mind and body in optimal condition. In fact, even moderate exercise can dramatically change the chemical composition in your brain, causing you to experience natural highs that make you feel happier and more productive. Focusing on your physical well-being can also help take your mind off the temptation to indulge in drugs or alcohol.

Furthermore, research1 shows that regular exercise can help restore the brain’s chemical balance after drug or alcohol abuse. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers even incorporate an exercise regimen into their treatment programs.

If you’re just starting out with an exercise plan, here are several exercises that can help you ease into a healthier lifestyle.

Easy on the joints, yoga is a gentle yet powerful form of exercise that incorporates both the body and the mind. Many people also use it as a form of meditation that quiets the thoughts and improves overall mood.
Taking in a hike can also allow you to take in nature. Walking is generally easier on the body than running or jogging, and you don’t even need any special equipment to do it. Just lace up a pair of comfortable sneakers and head out the door. Several smartphone apps even allow you to track your hikes so you can see your progress and how far you’ve gone.
Strength Training. You don’t have to be a bodybuilder to benefit from weight lifting. Much has been written about the benefits of strength training for both genders and people in all age groups. In fact, even exercises using nothing more than your own body weight can help you build lean muscle that improves your posture and overall physique. Strengthening your core can also alleviate back pain and arthritis.
Biking lets you hit the road without getting behind the wheel, which is usually a much less stressful way to get from point A to point B. It’s also an activity you can use to cut down on fuel costs, parking tickets, and hefty parking garage fees if you live in an urban area with a lot of traffic.

New Jersey Drug Detox Experts Weigh In The U.S. Heroin Epidemic

New Jersey, 01/27/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

Opioids are driving this national tragedy, with nearly 19,000 overdose deaths related to pain relievers and more than 10,500 related to heroin in 2014 alone. Four out of five heroin users began with prescription painkillers. As the rate of opioid abuse continues to escalate, so does the rate of heroin abuse. Today, the country is experiencing a frightening surge in opioid abuse and overdose deaths says New Jersey Drug Detox Experts at Serenity At Summit.

Related:  The Five Most Important Signs Of Drug Addiction To Know

People Using Heroin the Most

Heroin use has increased across nearly every demographic group. Surprisingly, the groups that traditionally were the least likely to use heroin – women, people with higher incomes, and the privately insured – have seen the greatest increases. High school students, especially seniors, are at a greater risk of abusing opioids and heroin than ever, with 12.4% of seniors admitting to lifetime nonmedical opioid use. According to surveys, Caucasian high school students were more likely to report nonmedical opioid and heroin use than African American and Latino students were. However, Caucasian students were less likely than the other two groups to use heroin without nonmedical opioid use.

People between the ages of 18 and 25 are most at risk of heroin addiction. Heroin use among this age bracket has more than doubled in the last 10 years. This increase may be attributable to the easy access of prescription painkillers and heroin, as well as heroin’s lower cost. As more young people misuse prescription opioids with the impression that they are safer than illicit drugs, the number of heroin users likewise escalates. Other risk factors for heroin abuse include:

Prescription painkiller addiction
Cocaine addiction
Alcohol addiction
Lack of insurance or Medicaid
Living in a large metropolitan region
Male non-Hispanic demographic

Urban areas still have the highest rates of heroin abuse, but rural communities are quickly catching up. The influx in heroin and opioid abusers in rural areas across America has led policymakers to try to make addiction treatment centers more easily available to citizens who live far away from the nearest metropolitan help center.

Areas With The Most Rampant Heroin Use

The Midwest has seen the most drastic increase in heroin abuse, closely rivaled by the Northeast. Nearly every state has experienced a rise in heroin use in the last decade, but some states are seeing higher rates of abuse than others are. Ten states saw drug overdose death rates that exceeded 20 deaths per 100,000 people in 2014 – the highest year on record for the number of overdose deaths – the top three of which were West Virginia, New Mexico, and New Hampshire. West Virginia had 35 drug overdose deaths per 100,000 residents, an increase of 437% since 2004.

Death Toll And Other Costs

An estimated 467,000 people are currently addicted to heroin in the United States. The consequences of this significant issue are immense and devastating. The number of accidental overdose deaths has more than quadrupled since 1999, resulting in an unquantifiable loss in premature deaths. The U.S. takes a hit for lost productivity costs, health care costs, unemployment, crime rates, homelessness, and treatment center costs. The estimated annual cost to American of all drug abuse is $786 billion.

Heroin use also affects unborn children, leading to an increase in societal medical costs. Neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) greatly increases the length of a newborn’s hospital stay, from an average of 2.1 days to 16.9 days. This increases the cost of birth from $3,500 on average to $66,700 per child born with NAS. While NAS typically does not have lasting health effects, babies born with drug dependencies have to undergo the painful symptoms of withdrawal, just as an adult would.

The Future Of America’s Heroin Epidemic

The issue of substance abuse in America involves many facets of public policy, including border security, the criminal justice system, and health care regulations. The federal government provides educational training to health care providers so they prescribe the appropriate amount of painkillers. Providers must also educate patients on the risks of becoming addicted to prescription opioids and their use as gateway drugs for heroin and other substances.

Increasing access to treatment centers is a top priority, as there is currently a deficit between the number of beds available and the number of addicts seeking treatment. Researchers need more funding to create pain medications that are less prone to addiction and create treatments for heroin addictions that are more effective.

Construction Zones Endanger Boca Car Accident Lawyer

Boca Raton, FL, USA, 02/15/2017 /SubmitPressRelease123/

We want to be able to get to our destination quickly and safely on smooth roads that have little congestion. In order to reach such perfect conditions new roadways need to be built and existing ones repaired and improved. This means that construction crews will be on the scene with barriers, trucks and equipment. Lanes that may have gone one way may suddenly go a different way or be blocked off entirely. Add to the confusion poor visibility, darkness and bad weather, making construction zones very dangerous says Boca car accident lawyer Joe Osborne.

A case in point occurred in Jacksonville in December. A 28 year old New Jersey resident, Hezekiah Griggs, III, was killed in the early morning when his parked car was struck by a tractor trailer reports WJXT.1 His car was parked in the safety zone of I-95 between the right lane of the interstate and the exit ramp to Old St. Augustine Road. The truck driver told state troopers he was in the exit lane but then tried to merge onto the interstate when he rear ended Griggs’ car.

The area of the accident, the right lane of I-95 south, was under construction. The lane was recently extended. There was one lane for those going southbound and to exit to Old St. Augustine. The area is constantly changing with improvements, reports Boca Raton car accident attorney Osborne.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration2 (NHTSA) states that in 2008 Florida had the second highest number of motorist fatalities in work zones at 81 behind only Texas, which had 134 fatalities. NHTSA has these suggestions for drivers entering into contraction zones:

Watch for cones, barrels, signs, large vehicles or workers in bright colored vests to warn you and direct you where to go.

Lower your speed to reduce the risk of an accident.

Be aware of traffic around you and be prepared to reduce your speed, obey signs and flaggers and increase the following distance with the vehicle in front of you.

You may tend to ignore work zone signs in areas where a project has lasted weeks or months but traffic patterns can suddenly change including lane shifts or alternating lane closures.

Be extremely careful when driving through a work zone at night whether you see workers or not.

Try to travel in the lane farthest away from where workers and equipment are located.

Be wary of mobile and moving work zones such as line painting, road patching or mowing beside the roadway.

Expect delays, leave early to reach your destination on time so you won’t feel the need to speed.

Avoid work zones when possible and use alternate routes.

If you or a family member have been injured in a vehicle accident in a construction zone in Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach Counties and have any questions about accident law, contact Boca truck accident lawyer Joe Osborne at (561) 800-4011 or fill out this online contact form. We can talk about the situation, how the law could apply in your case and the best legal options to protect your rights and obtain compensation for your injuries.
