Business agreements attached to that private-labeling deal prohibited the sale of the coolers using the ICEY-TEK brand name in the USA for several years until 2011 when Kentucky-based High Performance Coolers Inc. procured distribution rights for North America and started selling the ICEY-TEK® brand again with limited success. Meanwhile, globally, ICEY-TEK® remained and remains a globally popular brand in countries like Australia, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

Fast-forward to 2018 when business consultant and Navy veteran Patrick Mudge was called upon by the owner of High-Performance Coolers to help increase the value of the ICEY-TEK distributorship as the owner of High-Performance Coolers sought to execute his business exit strategy.

Patrick soon found himself falling in love with the classic design and proven performance of the coolers and even more so the story behind the brand and soon made the decision to acquire the company himself. That is when he attracted the support and partnership of three Army veterans to help with the acquisition and the exclusive ICEY-TEK® distribution rights for the USA. “While this news may come as something of a surprise, it was reported back in March that Amazon was in talks to open grocery stores in San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. The California store is likely a part of that plan,” says Mike Law, a representative for Sunsella.

Law continues, “While Amazon does own the Whole Foods brand—they did buy it for $13.7 billion, after all—it is not necessarily theirs. It doesn’t have that unique Amazon touch. Amazon promises that the new stores will be distinct and different from Whole Foods, but we’re not yet sure how. Whatever it turns out to be, however, you can be sure that it will be unique. It is possible that, if the Amazon brand of stores proves to be a success, the Whole Foods brand could be integrated with Amazon’s own store instead of operating under the Whole Foods banner.”

2019 Alpine Loop Gran Fondo Cyclist Ride 38,947.5 Miles to Beat Cancer

November 18, 2019 – – Manhattan Beach, California (PressAdvantage) November 18, 2019. Manhattan Beach resident and Cancer Journeys Foundation President Robert Hess rode in the 2019 Edition of the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo on September 30th, leading 592 bicyclists on what many call the most challenging Gran Fondo bicycle ride in the US to raise awareness for prostate cancer and raise funds for the Cancer Journeys Foundation’s prostate cancer early detection system, ProstateTracker. The riders raised over $7,000 to support prostate cancer programs.

Gran Fondo bicycling events are a growing phenomenon in the United States. The Cancer Journeys Foundation teamed up with pro cyclist Jeremiah Bishop in 2010 to create the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo, which is a 108-mile ride from Harrisonburg, Virginia into West Virginia and back. This route is one of Jeremiah’s training rides.

“Cyclists love a challenge and the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo weekend has four routes that provide challenges for cyclists at all skill levels,” said Robert Hess, founder and president of the Cancer Journeys Foundation, as well as an experienced long-distance cyclist.

Said Hess, “We created the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo as a fundraising tool for the Cancer Journeys Foundation, to make men aware of the importance of early prostate cancer detection, and to provide cancer survivors who are cyclists a goal to work for during their cancer journeys. This year, one of our male King of the Mountain winners was a prostate cancer survivor. Mission accomplished!”

“Research shows consistent exercise and good nutrition habits can play an important role in cancer prevention and help the body’s immune system prevent cancer recurrence. Bicycling is an optimal blend of exercise and outdoor exposure. It’s also great for emotional wellbeing,” according to Hess.

2020 will be the 10th anniversary Alpine Loop Gran Fondo and the organizers have some fun surprises in store for the participants. Details will be posted on the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo website.
