The internet retail giant has opened an Amazon 4-Star, which is its brand of physical stores, at Stonebriar Centre in Frisco, Texas. The stored opened on Wednesday, November 6th, 2019. The store hours are from 10 A.M. to 9 P.M. Monday to Saturday and 12 P.M. to 6 P.M. on Sundays.

Sunsella representative Mike Law says, “We are always following trends in the online and physical retail space. We want to provide our customers with the best possible experience and up to date information about the latest happenings in retail. We are paying close attention to this development and will be studying its impact on our customers and the retail landscape in general.” Sunsella stated that they are interested in the metrics of the sales volume that these stores generate in the home and kitchen segment. Sunsella said they will analyze the success or failure of Amazon’s move into the physical retail market to gauge the future moves of the online giant. There also planned upcoming events inside the store like a November 16, 2019 event which is a tie-up with the video game Fortnite and a book signing event with Martha Stewart on December 12, 2019.

Frisco residents and city leaders have gone on record about their enthusiasm for the new store. Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney said the city welcomes Amazon’s store which fills the void left earlier this year when its Apple store closed down. Drew Sheriff says that they chose the new location carefully. “We’re always looking for really vibrant retail locations. Stonebriar Centre as you can see based on today is just a great spot for a lot of customers,” he said speaking to CBS DFW. He added that the store is “really important to the city of Frisco.” This store opening has come at a perfect time for Frisco because of the slower sales tax growth due to increased competition from neighboring cities and Apple’s store shutdown. The city relies on the sales tax to fund many services. Cheney said, “We reduced our projected sales tax figures as a result of that. So we knew very quickly we would have to replace it with a similar brand. Something that would be a regional draw.” Cheney said that he expects the store to bring in shoppers from all over the DFW area and even the entire region.
