January 06, 2020 – – Chantilly, VA based Stone Ridge Montessori’s students were very excited to experience the many fun activities the preschool had to offer during the month of December. During this period, the preschool decided to give their students the opportunity to learn about and, in some ways, experience the holidays and events that take place in December. The children at Stone Ridge, for instance, had the opportunity to learn about Hanukkah, a Jewish festival commemorating the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. Also known as the Festival of Lights, it is observed for eight nights and days, beginning any time from late November to late December. The festival is observed by lighting the candles of the menorah, and Jewish people celebrate the festival by playing games of dreidel as well as eating oil based foods like latkes, sufganiyot and dairy foods.

Stone Ridge Montessori’s students learned about Hanukkah through fun and interesting projects and activities earlier in the month, and they were excited to get to know more about how some groups of people celebrate different events around December. They even made Hanukkah greeting cards, which helped them feel truly involved in the festival they were learning about.

The children were also encouraged to decorate Christmas trees in their classrooms. Christmas is perhaps the most well-known December holiday, and many people celebrate the 25th of December every year regardless of their religion. The students at Stone Ridge Montessori had the opportunity to work on their fine motor skills, concentration and aesthetics while decorating Christmas trees. They were excited to be involved in decorating the Christmas trees and learned quite a lot during the process.

They also got to take part in the season’s activities by creating Christmas trees using various art materials. Not only did this help the children learn more about Christmas while also feeling very involved in the holiday, it taught them to be more creative. By allowing them to create their own interpretation of a Christmas tree, Stone Ridge Montessori managed to make it so every child had the chance to create a unique piece expressing how they feel about the holiday.

December means winter, and the kids were encouraged to get into the winter spirit by building their own snowmen. It was another fun arts and crafts project that encouraged the children to create something expressing how they view and feel about winter. They had a lot of fun putting together their own snowmen, and it really helped them get into the winter spirit. All these activities were in line with the Montessori goal of producing well-balanced individuals who are in touch with their environment.

The announcement of Bill Ready’s end-of-the-year departure, however, did affect PayPal adversely as the company saw a 2% drop in its shares.

Ready confirmed his plans to join Google in a December 11 tweet, which read that he is, “Excited to build the future of commerce with Sundar Pichai, Prabhakar and the team at Google beginning in January!” In a statement to TechCrunch, Ready also said, “I’ve long admired how Google has enabled access to the digital economy for everyone. Google has been making world-class commerce capabilities universally accessible to partners of all sizes, and I look forward to furthering that mission.”

It has also been confirmed that Ready’s new position at Google won’t see him compete with PayPal, as his role does not involve payments. According to TechCrunch, his new role will have him reporting directly to Google’s SVP of ads, commerce and payments, Prabhakar Raghavan, and he will, “focus on leading Google’s vision, strategy and delivery of its commerce products. However, the role will see Ready working in close partnership with both the advertising and payments operations.”

There are actually five degrees of assault and these are governed by the Minnesota Statutes 609.221, 609.222, 609.223, 609.2231, and 609.224, respectively. First degree assault is of two kinds. The first one is assault inflicting great bodily harm and is punishable by a maximum of 20 years of imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $30,000. The other type is assault with deadly force against a police officer or correctional worker. This is also punishable by up to 20 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $30,000.

Meanwhile, the experienced criminal attorneys go on to explain that a second degree assault happens when a dangerous weapon is used. It is punishable up to seven years of imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $14,000. But if there is substantial bodily harm that resulted from the assault, the punishment can be up to 10 years of imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $20,000.

Third degree assault is of three kinds but all are punishable by imprisonment of up to five years and/or a fine of up to $10,000. The first kind is if there is substantial bodily harm. The second type of third degree assault is done against a minor (child abuse) and the offender has a history of abusing the minor. The third type is done against a child under the age of four and results in bodily harm.

Fourth degree assault has several possibilities. For the most part, this crime has to do with assaults against public officials, like reserve officers, postal service employees, firefighters, school officials, DNR employees, and police officers. It is punishable by imprisonment of up to three years and/or a fine of up to $6,000. The offense level can be a felony or a gross misdemeanor.

Fifth degree assault can be a felony, gross misdemeanor, or simple misdemeanor. The misdemeanor level occurs when a person intentionally causes another person to fear immediate bodily harm or death or when a person intentionally tries or causes bodily harm to another person. The gross misdemeanor level is a misdemeanor assault that is done against the same victim within 10 years as domestic violence offenses. The felony level occurs as a misdemeanor assault against the same victim within 10 years of two or more as domestic violence offenses. Fifth degree assault also covers assault using a firearm.

For the year 2019, the number of deaths in the homeless population has not yet been confirmed. However, it will likely be only slightly less than in 2018, according to the director of the Office of Homeless Services, Liz Hersh.

Hersh said that most deaths in the city’s homeless population were due to drug overdose. This is a significant change from just a few years ago—between 2009 and 2015—when only about 37 percent of deaths among the homeless population were attributed to overdoses.

Between 2016 and 2018, overdoses accounted for 59 percent of such deaths.

In 2018, nearly all of the fatal overdoses among homeless people involved opioids. The deadly synthetic opioid Fentanyl was present in nearly three-quarters of the deaths reported.

Officials have said that people experiencing homelessness are generally more likely than others to die of drug overdoses.

“I think we knew it was bad, but seeing the numbers in such stark relief, it took my breath away,” Hersh said. “It’s really been this perfect storm of the increased homelessness with the opioid crisis. And the people who are really suffering the most and have been hardest hit are the people who started out with the least.”

The opioid crisis has caused more people to live on the streets of Philadelphia. As the epidemic worsened, the number of homeless people grew. In the summer of 2018, a citywide count revealed that the homeless population in Kensington had more than doubled. Kensington is considered the heart of Philadelphia’s opioid epidemic. More than half the city’s homeless population was concentrated in the neighborhood.

By January 2019, the city’s homeless population had increased by another 5 percent, according to a newer citywide count. Officials took this as an encouraging sign that efforts to get people inside were working. They opened low barrier shelters that don’t require sobriety, according to Hersh. They also made it easier to access addiction treatment and permanent housing.

“But we have to be even more aggressive, diligent, and vigilant in those efforts,” she said. “These are people. They’re not less than anyone else. They’re just people in an unfortunate situation, and it’s not right to write them off.”
