Anaheim Lighthouse takes part in 25th Annual Nutcracker Christmas Tree Lighting Event

December 06, 2019 – – Anaheim, California (December 06, 2019) – The Anaheim Lighthouse, a drug and alcohol recovery facility in Southern California is taking part in the 25th Annual Nutcracker Christmas Tree Lighting hosted by the City of Anaheim on Saturday, December 7, 2019.

Lighthouse community relations manager Tamara Jimenez said that the event is an amazing way to give back and underline its commitment towards community building.

“Each year, Anaheim Lighthouse participates in kicking off the holiday season in Downtown Anaheim at the Annual Nutcracker Christmas Tree Lighting & Holiday Shopping Village. This year will be no different. We will be there for the 25th annual celebration, surprising children with free toys in the spirit of the giving season,” said Jimenez.

The tree lighting ceremony is part of the annual holiday shopping village in Downtown Anaheim. It will be the finale to a day-long celebration that includes performances by the Anaheim Ballet and Anaheim Union High School Combined Choirs, an international food fair, and the Candy Canine costume contest.

Jocel Bibera, alumni relations coordinator of the Lighthouse, shared that the family activities during the tree lighting event makes it a perfect outing for Lighthouse alumni. The free family activities will include snow play areas, train rides, craft areas for kids, and free photographs with Santa Claus.

“We love any opportunity to get involved with our community and we are happy that events such as this are right here in our backyard. It’s a great way for our alumni members and their families to start the holiday season and get into the Christmas Spirit,” said Bibera.

December 06, 2019 – – Roann, IN., December 6, 2019 – Many retirees are forced to take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from their traditional IRA or from their 401(k) plan. The amounts taken are taxed at ordinary income tax rates. Anyone that makes charitable contributions to qualified organizations could reduce their taxes by making those contributions directly from their IRA, rather than from their RMDs.

Terry DuPont says, “There is already legislation in place that can help just about anyone who is forced to take RMDs, yet don’t need the money. We recommend to many of our clients who make regular charitable donations, including their weekly offering to their church, to make those donations directly to the institution from their IRA.”

Why should they do that, Terry asks. He says, “For those seniors who are not itemizing, this makes their donation indirectly deductible, since the direct RMD contribution is not taxable under current law. Each individual taxpayer is allowed to contribute up to $100,000 annually, $200,000 on a joint tax return, if paid directly from their IRA to a qualified 501(3)(c) charitable organization, without the distribution being subject to taxation.”

This means that seniors who make regular charitable donations could save on taxes by making those donations from their IRA directly to the qualified 501(3)(c) charity, instead of withdrawing the money into a taxable account first.
