ABIM Foundation Announces New Choosing Wisely Champions Program

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The ABIM Foundation today announced a new component of the Choosing Wisely campaign-the Choosing Wisely Champions program, a national initiative to help recognize clinicians who are leading efforts to reduce overuse and waste in medicine.

More than a dozen leading medical specialty societies representing a diverse cross-section of health care have committed to participate in the program. They include:

  • AMDA – The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine
  • American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology
  • American Academy of Nursing
  • American Academy of Pediatrics
  • American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus
  • American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine
  • American College of Preventive Medicine
  • American College of Radiology
  • American Geriatrics Society
  • American Medical Society for Sports Medicine
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology
  • American Society of Echocardiography
  • American Society of Hematology
  • American Society of Nuclear Cardiology
  • American Thoracic Society
  • American Urogynecologic Society
  • American Urological Association
  • National Physicians Alliance
  • Society of Hospital Medicine
  • Society for Vascular Medicine
  • Participating societies will identify clinicians, or teams of clinicians, whose work in their respective specialties represents significant contributions to advancing the goals of the Choosing Wisely campaign by encouraging conversations about avoiding unnecessary care. These contributions could include creating an intervention to implement Choosing Wisely in their clinical practice, local initiatives to educate colleagues or playing a leadership role in developing society recommendations.

Societies will share their Champions nomination process with their members throughout 2016, with several planning to announce awardees by the end of the year. They will recognize their Champions in a variety of ways, including annual meetings, society publications and speaking opportunities. Through stories of change, more clinicians will hear about ways to bring Choosing Wisely into practice and increase the number of conversations they are having with their patients about what tests and treatments are right for them.

“The Choosing Wisely campaign, with the help and support of our more than 70 society partners and Consumer Reports, has done a remarkable job of raising awareness of the problem of overuse, and clinicians across the country are having important conversations with their patients,” said Richard J. Baron, MD, President and CEO of the ABIM Foundation. “But more needs to be done to get more clinicians and health systems engaged. One of the best ways to increase this engagement is to share stories of clinicians who have developed and implemented innovative ideas to ensure critical conversations about avoiding unnecessary care become the norm across our health care system.”

The Champions program supports clinicians’ aspirations to reduce waste and overuse in health care and improve patient care. According to a survey of clinicians commissioned by the ABIM Foundation, nearly three out of four clinicians say the frequency with which doctors order unnecessary medical tests and procedures is a serious problem for our health care system. And more than half think they are in the best position to address the issue of overuse and have ultimate responsibility for making sure patients avoid unnecessary care. The Choosing Wisely Champions program is designed to recognize those dedicated to providing appropriate care and encourage others to follow their lead.

Launched in 2012, the Choosing Wisely campaign continues to be widely recognized across the U.S. health care system as a leading effort to encourage conversations between patients and clinicians about what care is truly necessary. More than 70 medical specialty societies are partners in the effort and have collectively identified more than 400 tests and treatments they say are overused in their specialty. Consumer Reports, a partner in the campaign, works with many of the specialty societies to develop patient-friendly materials from the lists of recommendations and disseminates them to consumers through a network of partners.

In late 2014, after more than 35 years of dedicated vision service across Houston and Austin, Mann Eye Institute started on a new journey: The journey to provide quality, convenient and affordable eye care in Houston’s urban and suburban areas that were lacking a five-star choice. Less than two years later, they’re opening their seventh location in Baytown, Texas.

Baytown, Texas – March 10, 2016 – Mann Eye Institute’s sister company, Mann Eye 2, is excited to announce the opening of its newest office in Baytown, Texas. The new location – previously Vison Max – will serve the Baytown, Dayton, Beaumont, and Liberty areas. “Baytown is an area we have been looking at for quite awhile so we were very excited when this opportunity presented itself,” said Justin Sullivan, Practice Administrator. “We look forward to taking up the care of Vision Max’s and Dr. Planty’s existing patients and welcoming them into the Mann Eye family.”

“We are excited to expand services at the Baytown location and will be able to offer all the ancillary services for our LASIK and cataract patients, including diagnosis, testing, and pre- and post-op care,” said Sullivan. “Additionally, we will offer patients convenient, high-quality, affordable routine eye care appointments, contact lens fittings, and same-day glasses.”

Tammie Hicks, OD, will lead the team at the new Baytown Mann Eye 2 location. As a primary eye care provider, Dr. Hicks conducts comprehensive eye exams and prescribes glasses and contact lenses. She also offers management of ocular diseases and is a certified glaucoma specialist. She has been a licensed optometrist since 1995. Dr. Hicks is a member of the Harris County Optometric Society.

“When the Baytown location of Mann Eye 2 opened, it felt like coming home,” said Dr. Hicks. “I grew up basically right next door to Baytown, and I’m so excited to be seeing patients there! Having the opportunity to be a part of the Mann Eye family, and being able to build this practice from the ground up (so to speak) is a dual blessing.”

Cliftonvillle, Margate Will Soon be the Home of Cliffs, a Cafe, Hair Salon, Yoga and Record Store Complex

The Cliftonville community of Margate is experiencing an influx of young, hip newcomers that have reenergized this part of town both socially as well as economically. Cliftonville is ripe for regeneration and one of the most exciting new projects is Cliffs, an ambitious renovation of a majestic Victorian three-storey, 420 sq metre/4,500 sq ft building in the heart of the community. This historic and once beautiful building has been neglected and allowed to fall into near dereliction. When completed, Cliffs will serve as a lodestone for new and old residents with chic coffee shop, record store, hair salon and a yoga studio. Most importantly, Cliffs will function as a community center and gathering space for the neighborhood, offering unique community events as well as a relaxing place to work, read and listen to music. With the careful redesign, Cliffs will signal to the wider region that Margate is spearheading an economic resurgence.

While development is fully under way, this pioneering project is still seeking support from the public to help it get off the ground. When completed, there will be three spacious floors for community events, small gatherings, dining, recreation and personal enhancement. The project is headed by Kier Muddiman and Ed Warren, design and coffee enthusiasts, who recognized that Cliftonville desperately needed a cafe. They put their years of interior design expertise to work finding the perfect locale and creating an aesthetic that will be sure to attract local residents.

In order to complete this project, Kier and Ed need an additional £15,000 on top of their personal financial backing. To secure the funding, they have sponsored a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, and are inviting you to join them in making Margate just a bit more appealing and fun. In return for your generous support, you can receive valuable perks like hot drinks, a lifetime’s supply of coffee, pastries, tote bags, yoga classes (for up to 6 months), records, or hair styling. You also have the option of donating a cup of coffee perk to someone more unfortunate (if you don’t live in the Margate area). To learn more about Cliffs or to make a financial contribution to this historic project, please visit http://kck.st/1TVutLM.

Toronto Web Design Company, a leader in professional web solutions in programming, modern graphic design, and web development strategies provides launches a new service that does anything with HTML 5.

Toronto Web Design Company DTW announces its latest service, which is creating interactive games with HTML 5. HTML 5 is a great replacer of flash animations, which does not play on mobile phones. HTML 5 is recognized as the future of interactive web design and games HTML5 allows for countless finger interactions, including drag, pinch, and zoom, and rotate. Another new feature of HTML5 is a form-design toolkit expansion. This means the user can add range sliders, a search field, a pop-up calendar for date selection, default text into input fields to locate books, and a color selector to view the computer’s color picker.

In a statement by a spokesman for DTW, said “ Flash technology has a lot of disadvantages. It does not leverage on the present billion counts of mobile users. The trend is all about mobility, and this is the new wave. HTML 5 provides the answer; it helps us create mobile applications, interactive websites, and mobile responsive mobile animations. We have a tech team of creative and experienced people, who knows how to deliver anything through HTML 5. We are happy to help our clients in achieving any app dream they have with the use of HTML 5.”

In the past, a user’s geographical location was determined by using an IP detection script that accessed a database and made an estimate of the user’s general location. But HTML5 has the capability of determining more accurate geographical locations.  With HTML5, advertisers have access to native device features, including touch, GPS, gyroscope, and even 3D graphics acceleration. Also, designers can now access more primary constructs, which translates to infinitely more possibilities in what content can be. We also envision a healthy ad ecosystem based on HTML5 ads. SHAREHOLDER ALERT: Bronstein, Gewirtz & Grossman, LLC Reminds Investors of Class Action Against GoPro, Inc. (GPRO) and Lead Plaintiff Deadline March 14, 2016 with Expanded Class Period

NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / March 10, 2016 / Attorney Advertising–Bronstein, Gewirtz & Grossman, LLC reminds investors of class action against GoPro, Inc. (“GoPro” or the “Company”) (Nasdaq: GPRO) and certain of its officers. The class action was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California on behalf of a class consisting of all persons or entities who purchased shares between the now expanded class period of November 26, 2014 through January 13, 2016, inclusive (the “Class Period”). Such investors are advised to contact Peretz Bronstein or his investor relations analyst, Yael Hurwitz at info@bgandg.com or 212-697-6484.

On October 28, 2015, GoPro released disappointing third quarter 2015 results, including revenue of $400 million, much lower than the Company’s guidance of $430-$445 million. That day, Nick Woodman, CEO of GoPro attributed the Company’s poor performance, to weak sales of the HERO4 Session camera, specifically stating, “our guidance going into the quarter was actually for a significant additional amount of Session to ship. . . . Session didn’t sell through as well as we anticipated . . . .”

Following this news, GoPro shares fell $4.59, or more than 15%, to close at $25.62 per share on October 29, 2015.

On January 13, 2016, GoPro reported a preliminary fourth quarter 2015 revenue of $435 million, again far below the GoPro’s expected $500-$550 million. Additionally, GoPro publicized a plan to cut its staff by approximately 7% and is likely to suffer roughly $5 to $10 million in restructuring costs. GoPro attributed its dismal fourth quarter results to “lower than anticipated sales of its capture devices” and “a $21 million reduction for price protection related charges resulting from the HERO4 Session repricing in December.”

Following this news, GoPro shares dropped as much as $4.08 per share, or 27.9%, to lows of $10.52 per share during after hours trading on January 13, 2016.

This lawsuit alleges that GoPro and certain of its officers with violations of the federal securities laws. Breast cancer, a malignant neoplasm, is the second-most common cancer and the most common cancer in women worldwide, accounting for 16% of all female cancers, making the disease exceedingly prevalent. In the past, breast cancer occurred less in women in Asia than women in Western countries. However, recent studies show that breast cancer is being diagnosed more frequently in women living in Asia, especially among younger women.

There have been wide-reaching changes in the breast cancer market over the past four decades, particularly in relation to the usage of targeted therapies, which has increased significantly. The marketed products landscape comprises a wide range of treatment options, including hormonal therapies, chemotherapies, combination therapies and targeted therapies. The market is set to be driven by a number of new approvals for drugs and an increased uptake of premium targeted therapies. Nevertheless, significant unmet need remains for products that can improve overall survival rate, time to disease progression, and overall response.

    Scope

The current breast cancer market contains novel products, including Perjeta, a targeted therapy; Kadcyla, a human antibody-drug conjugate; and Halaven, a novel chemotherapeutic agent.

    • What are the competitive advantages of the existing novel drugs
    • Are these targeted therapies used to the same magnitude in all the countries assessed
    • What are the factors contributing to the uptake of these drugs in each country

With over 700 active pipeline molecules, most of the investigational drug candidates are being evaluated for the first-line or second-line treatment of advanced-stage breast cancer, featuring new combination therapies, targeted therapies, and promising immunotherapies, as well as chemotherapy drug candidates.

    • Which classes of novel drugs are most prominent within the pipeline
    • Is there strong potential for the pipeline to address unmet needs within the breast cancer market
    • Which Asia-Pacific countries should expect a late launch and a lower uptake of the late-stage pipeline drugs

Analysis of clinical trials since 2006 identified that the failure rates of breast cancer molecules were highest in Phase II (41%), with the overall attrition rate for breast cancer in development being 61%.

    • How do failure rates vary by product stage of development, molecule type, and mechanism of action
    • How do other factors, such as average trial duration and trial size, influence the costs and risks associated with product development

Over the 2014–2021 period, the value of the Asia-Pacific markets for breast cancer therapeutics is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 8.5%, from $1.9 billion to over $3.4 billion.

    • Which markets make the most significant contribution to the current market size
    • What are the epidemiology trends in these markets
    • Will new market entrants lead to substantial changes in annual therapy costs
    • How will different treatment usage patterns impact growth in the Asia-Pacific markets
    • What are the various trends observed in the market over the forecast period in each of the countries

Complete research report of 171 pages with TOC is available at http://www.rnrmarketresearch.com/breast-cancer-therapeutics-in-asia-pacific-markets-to-2021-growth-driven-by-increasing-uptake-of-premium-priced-biologics-and-rising-prevalence-market-report.html .

Rising breast cancer prevalence and increasing use of premium targeted therapies along with new product approvals will lead to significant market growth over the forecast period, despite generic sales erosion resulting from patent expirations.

    • Will patent expirations or emerging pipeline molecules threaten the commercial success of existing drugs
    • Various drivers and barriers would influence the market over the forecast period.
    • What are the barriers that limit the uptake of premium-priced therapeutics in the accessed countries
    • Which factors are most likely to drive the market in these countries
