16th Annual WWII Heritage Day Event To Be Held To Honor 75th Anniversary Of D Day

April 24, 2019 – – The 16th Annual WWII Heritage Days Event will be held by the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing, in the community of Peachtree City, Georgia, commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

The 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Europe will be commemorated all around the world in 2019. In the Peachtree City community, the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing has run the tradition of hosting the annual WWII Heritage Days event, which is held at the Atlanta Regional Airport ‘Falcon Field.’ It showcases a display of historic aircraft, military vehicles, antique cars, and vintage fashion, along with other educational activities for the local community.

Beginning as a one-day program in 2003, the CAF Dixie Wing’s WWII Heritage Days has grown into the largest WWII themed event in Georgia and, 16 years after the first event, it has now become a tradition for the Peachtree City community to attend the WWII Heritage Days event. Some of the attendants who were at the very first WWII Heritage Days when they were young are now attending this year’s event with families of their own, educating the younger generations on this part of the extensive history of the United States of America.

This is not an activity exclusive to the Peachtree City community, as many come to visit Peachtree City just for the opportunity of attending the venue. Visitors usually come from the southern states while others use the opportunity to take a family trip, all with the objective of learning more about US history, directly from Georgia’s branch of the Commemorative Air Force, Dixie Wing.

Aside from the displays, the event hosts a dance that has become a tradition and a community favorite for the past five years. It features a live 20-piece swing band, where the CAF Dixie Wing Warbird Museum is adorned with era-appropriate decorations to recreate the ambiance of the 1940s period. Notably, WWII Veterans are honored throughout the event.

Over the weekend, more than 300 volunteers of the CAF Dixie Wing conduct special events, such as reenactment battles, 1940s music shows, veteran and historian presentations, educational displays and activities for children. Jim Buckley, leader of the all-volunteer CAF Dixie Wing expresses that, “The CAF is best known as the largest World War II flying museum in the world, but our mission is to educate. WWII Heritage Days is a living history classroom.” The WWII Heritage Days program includes educational activities and living history demonstrations for all ages, ensuring that everyone will have something to spend their time at and enjoy throughout the event. As a result, it is an ideal venue to plan a family outing at.

The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving WWII aircraft, teaching WWII history, and—as the Commemorative Air Force was founded to acquire—restoring and preserving different types of combat aircraft flown by all military services of the United States in flying condition. Southeast Electric Flight Festival Announces Raffle Prizes For Upcoming SEFF Week 2019

April 24, 2019 – – The organizers of the annual Southeast Electric Flight Festival (SEFF) are pleased to announce that the sponsors of the SEFF Week 2019 have already pledged over $7000 worth of raffle prizes for this year’s event, which will be held from April 29 – May 04, 2019.

Considered the world’s largest electric RC flying event, SEFF Week is an annual premier league electric flight festival in the US, hosted by the Fayette Flyers of Georgia. This year, the festival will take place at the Mac Hodges field in Americus, GA, which features a flat, green, 1,700 sq.ft. bermuda grass runway with clear, open skies, a spacious pit area, and plenty of parking spaces.

Barnard states that there will be LT-6 Rides in Raffle, courtesy of the festival’s newest sponsor, Matt Klos, owner of FAA DAR-T Solutions. He explains that Klos will be providing five rides in the CAF Dixie Wing’s, LT-6 as part of the grand raffle draw. To be eligible, a lucky winner must be present at the Friday and Saturday Pilot Briefing period. If not, another ticket will be drawn. “If someone needs to call or get you because you are not at the briefing, another ticket will be drawn as well,” Barnard warns.

He further states that the winner must be at least 16 years old to abide with the CAF’s insurance requirements, and winners who are unable to take their ride during the event will be given a certificate which will be valid for one year. In addition, the winners drawn during the Friday Pilot Briefing will be awarded a certificate authorizing the flight and, if the weather permits, will have their rides scheduled for Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the winners drawn during the Saturday Pilot Briefing will be awarded a certificate authorizing the flight and will have their rides scheduled late Saturday morning. Barnard explains that all flights will begin and end at the Jimmy Carter Regional Airport (ACJ), and SEFF will provide a ride to ACJ if needed. Furthermore, he says that each flight will make a pass over the SEFF flightline, and it is recommended to have someone on site for photo taking opportunities.

As noted on the CAF Dixie Wing website, the North American Aviation T-6 Texan (LT-6) is a single-engined advanced trainer aircraft used to train pilots of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF), United States Navy, Royal Air Force, and other air forces of the British Commonwealth during World War II and the 1970s. Designed by North American Aviation, the plane is known by a variety of designations depending on the model and operating air force. The United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) and USAAF designated it as the AT-6, the United States Navy dubbed it th the SNJ, and British Commonwealth air forces refer to it as the Harvard, the name by which it is best known outside of the US. After 1962, US forces designated it the T-6. It remains a popular warbird aircraft used for airshow demonstrations and static displays. It has also been used many times to simulate various Japanese aircraft, including the Mitsubishi A6M Zero in movies depicting World War II in the Pacific.

The organizers of the festival also published a list of relevant SEFF Week 2019 Pilot Info on the event’s website. As noted on the pilot’s information guide, the West end of Mac Hodges field will have 3D with no limit to aircraft size. Meanwhile, facing east will be the FPV/Multi rotor area, and north of that will be Heli area. “As we did last year, we have the field set up so that you can walk out and fly and have a great time. We encourage everyone to study and familiarize themselves on the flight pattern, announce ‘take-off’ and ‘landing’ and if ‘on the runway,’ make sure not to fly over camping areas or stations. Most importantly, however, they should enjoy themselves and have a good time,” says Barnard. He also adds that DLG may launch from any location except Heli, and float flying will be scheduled before 9AM and after 5PM.
