“I booked the stay and then I immediately messaged the host and said, ‘I just want to let you know I’m not going to be coming and staying. I just really wanted to find a way to donate and make an impact. And please keep this money, and if you don’t need it, please give it to somebody who does”, said Alexa Godel. 

The Ukrainian host responded with gratitude. Russian forces attacked and he was forced to leave everything he owned behind.

“I can’t even imagine what he’s going through let alone the rest of the Ukrainian people right now but it just felt great to get a response from him and know that I was making a difference,” added Patron.

Airbnb released a statement about the trend: “We are so humbled by the inspiring generosity of our community during this moment of crisis. Airbnb is temporarily waiving guest and host fees on bookings in Ukraine at this time.”

As Nafeel hails from the Middle East and is a Muslim, his father was dissapointed and refused to support his career choice as promoting nightclubs, being in the company of women, and, most importantly, consuming alcohol were all against his culture and religious convictions.

Despite these hardships, Nafeel overcame the judgements and self-doubt and decided to embark on this opportunity of opening a lounge bar in Duluth as the location is well-known for bringing in a diversity of crowd.
