Police believe that they were utilizing rebar, which is steel used as a tension device in reinforced concrete. A local detective indicated that 12-foot falls aren’t rare, but since the victim fell directly onto his head, on concrete, he sustained fatal injuries on impact. The site had a valid building permit, and all inspections were up to date. The Occupational Safety & Health Administration has been called in to investigate the incident. Police reports also indicate the victim was not wearing any safety devices.
