Invisco Whole House Fan Co. Adds 3 Rooftop Mounted Systems With High Flow Top

In response to homeowner requests Invisco has introduced 3 new rooftop mounted whole house fan products. These incorporate a new high air flow rain hat that eliminates the air flow restriction caused by traditional rain caps. The Invisco rooftop whole house fans come in three air flow ranges – 2700 CFM, 3600 CFM and 4700 CFM.

These new rooftop systems are offered with two motor options – one a PSC motor with infinitely variable speed operation but does not lower the electric power used at lower speeds – and an EC motor option (electronically commutated brushless DC motor) that has excellent performance in reducing input current as the RPM is reduced.

The revolutionary new rain hat has the added advantage of eliminating screens that also reduce air flow and add cost. Instead of having the top open to air at all times the top has butterfly flaps that open only when the fan is blowing up. At all other times the flaps are closed to prevent air and rain from entering. Since whole house fans are not likely to be needed when it is raining it is espected that the flaps will only open when it is not raining.

The physical size of these systems makes them easy to install. They are round duct like shrouds with the motor and blade inside and outside diameters of 16, 18 and 20 inches, respectively.

Each fan assembly comes in 3 pieces – the rain hat, the motor and blade assembly and 8 feet of acoustically insulated ducting for use as an additional sound reducer.

As an option for those homeowners with very low attics there is a kit to connect the main system to a ceiling opening that can be covered by either the Invisco round cube core grille or a rectangular cube core grille from one of many suppliers. The cube core grille is specifically designed for high air flow with minimum resistance by virtue of its assymetric core design. Its openings are 1/2 inch square and 1/4 inch thick. One side has edges just 1/32 inch thick with the other side edges 1/16 inch thick for more strength. Mounted with the thin side down offers minimum resistance to the air flowing up.

Edmonds Offers Their Patented ecoPOWER Hybrid Rooftop Ventilators in the U.S.

Invisco Whole House and Variable Speed Fan Company based in Temecula California has been selected by a large and successful Australian firm, Edmonds, to import and market their patented ecoPOWER hybrid rooftop ventilators. These efficient turbine bladed ventilators come in three sizes, 16 inch, 24 inch and 36 inch diameters.

The turbine bladed top is capable of free rotation under wind force alone, just like a normal wind powered ventilator, but also offers energy efficient power drive using an electronically commutated brushless DC motor (ECM). The head design does not use axial fan blades but simply acts as a large centrifugal fan with minimal air friction and negligible noise.

In power mode, ecoPOWER has the capacity to harness available wind energy which, in turn, reduces input power draw to further improve its world record low energy efficiency.

The EP400 (16 inches shaft diameter) pulls 1,412 CFM when powered. The EP600 (24 inches shaft diameter) pulls 2,500 CFM and the EP900 (36 inches shaft diameter) pulls 5,885 CFM. The power in watts for each at 230 VAC is 68, 116 and 260. The tops that have the vertical turbine blades on the sides are these diameters and heights : 22 inches and 8 inches, 30 and 11 and 43 and 16. These ventilators are fabricated from light aluminum and are designed to withstand wind speeds over 120 MPH.

Some applications of note include a new engineering building at the University of Washington in Seattle where the architectural firm Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects LLP made the decision to install 8 of the 36 inch ventilators on the roof of the 4 story structure with shafts descending to the bottom floor and fresh air inlets all around the building serving each floor. Hoffman Construction did the work to install the ventilators.

In Hawaii a residence in Pearl Harbor chose the EP600 to replace 8 fans on the top of their 18 story building. The bathroom ventilation shafts previously used 3/4 horse power fans that consumed a huge amount of electric power. After the ecoPOWER systems were installed the electricity usage dropped 80%.
